imparfait/imperfect:
J'étais/ I was
tu étais/you were
il,elle,on était/he,she,it was
nous étions/we were
vous étiez/you were
ils,elles étaient/they were

passé-composé/perfect:
J'ai été/I have been
tu as été/you have been

Être- to be

Singular Plural
Je suis | Nous sommes
Tu es | Vous êtes
Il est | Ils sont
Elle est | Elles sont

it's basically

I am | We are
you are |You are (plural, more than one person)
He is | (Ils) They are (mixed gender or all males)
She is | (Elles) They are (all female group)

Je suis: I am
Tu es: you are (singular)
Il/elle/on est: he/she/it/one is

nous sommes: we are
vous êtes: you are (plural, or polite form)
ils/elles sont: they are
