Oh my goodness! That is so cruel! Why people act like that to a child is beyond me.
I don't know how you could really explain that to a child. I had similar things happen to my son and I never knew what to say. Usually when he'd cry about stuff I'd just have to not try and explain and instead just told him I was sorry and give him the biggest hug! Broke my heart as I'm sure it did yours. Just from now on have Christmas at your house so that you can make sure he's having a good day instead of one feeling left out.

Your ex, is a real winner. If your son goes again, tell him not to be disappointed if he doesn't get anything, because Santa just didn't know where to find him. That would also be the last time he would go. Make sure you have some presents set back for him. When the kids get older they will know why you left their dad, for reasons like this.

You should have offered to pay for half of the drum set if it was expensive. Other than that, you son is being used as a pawn by a very vindictive, ill-natured, immature person. Next Christmas, just get him what he wants from Santa and let the chips fall where they may with his father. Just make sure Santa comes to your house. Don't tell his father what he wants for Christmas, you get if for him.

Don't tell your son anything. He will find out on his own what kind of creep his Dad is. Stop trying to "cover or explain" the things Dad does. Just tell your son "I'm sorry that happened to you." and leave it.

I would read Him the Riot Act, before I let Him know what a Scum-Bag He Really Is! He could not come up with a good enough excuse to cover that BLUNDER! He Has A Pay-Day coming........You Reap what You sow!
And He will deserve everything He gets......

give your son as much love, affection, and praise as you possibly can without spoiling him or overdoing it, because one day he will need a supportive, loving parent, once he realizes that he only has one.
