How Much Chocolate Is Deadly?
If a 50-pound dog eats a teaspoonful of milk chocolate, it's not going to cause serious problems. However, if that same dog gorges himself on a two-layer chocolate cake, his stomach will feel more than upset and soon it's likely he'll be vomiting or experiencing diarrhea.
To answer the question "How much is too much" is not simple. The health and age of your dog must be considered. Obviously if your dog is aged and not in top shape, his reaction to a plate of chocolate is going to be different from a young healthy dog of the same weight.
Another fact that must be considered is this: Not all chocolate is the same. Some has a small amount of theobromine; another type has a large amount and still another contains an amount that is somewhere in between. The quantity has a relationship with the weight of your dog. Small dogs can be poisoned, it is easy to understand, from smaller amounts of theobromine than large dogs.
Which chocolate is the safest, relatively speaking? White chocolate. It has the least amount of theobromine: 1 mg per ounce. Far on the other side of the spectrum is baking chocolate, which has a huge 450 mg of theobromine per ounce!
Here are a few other chocolates for you to ponder: hot chocolate, 12 mg of theobromine per ounce; milk chocolate, 60 mg/oz; and up there near baking chocolate: semi-sweet chocolate with 260 mg/oz.
You might try using this to remember these chocolates from least to most toxic: What Happy Moose Says BAA? Or: White-Hot-Milk-Semi-Baked. If you have a better way to remember, contact us!
Knowing which chocolate is the most toxic is important, but leaves one wondering how much must be eaten to poison a dog. The list in this box should be helpful. Maybe you can clip it and post it on your refrigerator?
White chocolate: 200 ounces per pound of body weight. It takes 250 pounds of white chocolate to cause signs of poisoning in a 20-pound dog, 125 pounds for a 10-pound dog.
Milk chocolate: 1 ounce per pound of body weight. Approximately one pound of milk chocolate is poisonous to a 20-pound dog; one-half pound for a 10-pound dog. The average chocolate bar contains 2 to 3 ounces of milk chocolate. It would take 2-3 candy bars to poison a 10 pound dog. Semi-sweet chocolate has a similar toxic level.
Sweet cocoa: 0.3 ounces per pound of body weight. One-third of a pound of sweet cocoa is toxic to a 20-pound dog; 1/6 pound for a 10-pound dog.
Baking chocolate: 0.1 ounce per pound body weight. Two one-ounce squares of bakers' chocolate is toxic to a 20-pound dog; one ounce for a 10-pound dog
if you are still worried take the dog to a vet immediately

This is like the third question like this that i've seen on here today.. The good ole Hershey bar.. it always the Hershey bar. IF you are serious, you need a vet.. that is a lot of chocolate for a toy size dog.

My husband and I have three dogs (terriers.. lol) and they get into everything! Destiny is by far the worst though! She weighs about 38 pounds and if she eats something that could hurt her we give her 2 tablespoons of peroxide to make her throw it up. If I were you I would give him about 2 tablespoons and just make sure he has plenty of water to drink. We have found the easiest way to give her the peroxide is to measure out 2 tablespoons, put it in a small cup and pour it in her mouth. Like I said, make sure he has some water as well and then just watch him and make sure he's okay. He will throw up everything that's in his stomach, so don't have him anywhere that you wouldn't want a lot of throw up. It might take 15-30 minutes before he throws up, but that should work. I hope he is okay! Good luck! : )
**I do want to add that even if you don't get him to throw it up, he will most likely be fine. All of our dogs have somehow gotten chocolate at one time or another and when I was a child I would feed my dogs whatever I was eating, including chocolate. I know several people that feed their dog chocolate! It can hurt him, but chances are, it won't. We have never made Destiny throw up chocolate and one time she ate one of those huge Hersheys bars. We do the peroxide thing with if she eats some pills or something. The chocolate thing is definitely NOT a myth, but like I said, chances are, your dog will be just fine!**

NO.
The lethal dose of sweet milk chocolate for a dog is 2 oz per kilogram of body weight. Your dog is 30 pounds, or 13.5 Kg.
13.5 x 2 = 26.5 ounces = 1 pound 10 ounces of chocolate.
A regular size Hershey bar is 60 grams. 30 grams = 1 ounce. So your dog ate 2 ounces of chocolate. That is
7.8% of the lethal dose.
Your dog is not going to die unless there is some unknown cardiac problem. However, your dog may be pretty hyper for a while.

He should be fine! He will show signs of Excitement /nervousness / trembling because he is small but that's it...it will only make him develop a taste for chocolate... I used to give my dog chocolate candy bars, chocolate ceral, chocolate milk and everything else when I was a child...And my dog is still alive today...she is 15 years old!
But, just because he is small, make sure you watch him for the next few hours and if he has these signs he may just be allergic to it and then he should go to the vet: vomiting, diarrhea, muscle spasms or excessive thirst....but otherwise if he does not show these signs in the next few hours, then he will be fine!

I think the whole Chocolate thing is a myth. So please take a breath and read this story.......................
The First familly dog we ever had, that I can remember, was a German Short Haired Pointer. One Easter morning she ate one of my brothers entire easter basket. I am not exagerating when I say it was over two pounds of chocolate. That was not the first time she ate chocolate and definitely not the last, but it was the most.
Nothing happened to her, she did throw-up twice that day and you could tell she was a bit queezy, but hey it was a lot of sugar.
Here is some technical information on it, basically it says your dog would have had to eat 30 oz to make it sick, but he may get diarrhea, so ensure he drinks plenty of water. A Hershey Milk chocolate bar is only 1.55oz.

So no worries your dog should be fine.
