Actually, I was raised Catholic and still have great respect for the faith and traditions of the Catholic Church. Although I am now Buddhist, it does not mean that I hate Catholicism or feel that it is backward. It was simply not the path for me. If you feel it is not your path, then you should search for something else. However, there is no need to slam a religion simply because it is not the right one for you.
If you want one reason to stay Catholic though, I think it would be cool to go to Father K's church!
Peace!

You certainly do not have to stay, but if you have been baptized catholic you will always be catholic for the rest of your life, just remember the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence, I have been a catholic now for 50 plus years and there is lots I don't believe in either, but I know that to make a change would only pi$$ me off more, unfortunately religion has become more of a violent evil institution today so I simply stay away from it.

By 'backwards' I assume you mean that the teachings of the church are old-fashioned, tried and true, and do not change along with the times. This is a plus. People think their time in history is unique and new, but history repeats itself, and the tried and true answers are more likely to be the right ones. The new social experiments of any given time are more likely to be seen by history as mistakes.
Any religion that holds firm to its beliefs will seem backwards when there is social change taking place.

I tell you what I will do for you absolutely nothing. Since you seem to be insulting us Catholics you really don't want to listen to anything anybody will tell you therefore you will have to do some soul searching and come to you own conclusion. Us Catholics don't go around shoving our religion down anybody's throats and we don't try to make anybody join our faith either. Anyway the reason why I'm Catholic is because I was lead to this faith.

Four words: The bread of life.
Where Protestants think Jesus must have been spouting poetry when he insisted over and over (in John 6), "My flesh is real food and my blood is real drink," and "Unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you." But if Christ were speaking metaphorically, it is strange that "from this time many of his disciples turned back and no longer followed him." Deserted Christ over figurative language?
The Catholics and Orthodox are the only Christians who take Christ seriously on the bread of life, probably because these two modern churches have a direct link to the original Church, which never doubted Jesus' plain meaning. From eating the body and drinking the blood of Christ, Catholics find the nourishment and consolation God provides for Christians.
Cheers,
Bruce

Conversion to Catholicism doesn't work that way... we're not vacuum cleaner salesmen, and we don't pimp our faith door to door.
If you were actually interested, what you would normally do would be to participate in an RCIA course (Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults), where you would be given the basics of our faith, and you would be able to ask questions about why we believe the way we do.
We don't do door to door salesmanship... we try and provide something a bit more useful and helpful to interested seekers however.

If you don't want to be Catholic, and want to be aggressive towards that faith (calling it backward for example) then you DON'T want reasons, you want people to agree with you and give you more reasons to NOT be a Catholic. See how that works?
Be honest with yourself, and decide for yourself.

Because the Catholic Church is the only church established by Jesus Christ Himself. Jesus established a church, not a religion and definitely not over 33,000 denominations as in the Protestant church. The Catholic Church is the only church that upholds all of the 7 sacraments given to the Apostles by Jesus, and it is also the only church that preaches the "COMPLETE" fullness of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

backward? No, the church has always been progressive. One reason to be a catholic? Because Jesus is really and truely there.

I'm Agnostic and I'm only 15. The only thing that keeps me from Atheism is the fear of uncertainty and the fact that my weak faith could bite me later if the whole thing was true.
