No, I believe in gay marriages. Whatever happened to separation of church and state. We are not supposed to make laws based on the bible. (BTW, the bible has been translated many many times. There are errors and mistakes in translation. Sometimes the changes were deliberate to fit the view of the translator. Best not to base anything on error.)

The ACT Government here in Australia recently tried to pass a law to allow civil unions for Gay and Lesbian couples, but it was overturned by the Federal Government (As the ACT is a Territory not a State the Federal Government can overrule its legislature - it cannot do that to a state government)

I believe that they should be allowed to get married. If we read the Bible in context and take note of the original meaning of the Hebrew/Greek we see that homosexual orientation is infact never identified. Leviticus identifies man lying with another man as an abomination, however this is under the old Jewish Holiness Code and does not apply to Christians. The New Testament references most often cited are poorly translated and most often taken out of context.

Homosexual is by choice but....

Moralely, you are marked by God as top most unwanted. A right person should alway accept other human being but it their choice not to accept homosexual. If you feel left out, I don't blame you because no one accept your sin. Have you ever cry in the forest but only get a howling wind? This is life and if you wanted forced people to accept you by making an ammendent or law. How would you feel about the depressed hermit? My word is not insulting but to get you to understand that the number will alway be the number. 5+5 doesn't make it a 11. If you want to find peace and better understanding, you can alway change yourself and be part of the life by remaining single and not have any opposite or same gender. You will be welcome back and you will have someone responding when you call. God will put you back on the list of a wanted person. When there is life, that where God wanted.

With all dues respect, civil union if I am not mistaken with ACLU. They have made a wrong point regarding the miltary's cemetary, personal freedom in moment of silence, prayer, and relgion, and the tradition with Christmas.

Only if heterosexual couples are also given "civil unions" by the government. Separate but equal is *not* equal.

That's actually what I support most. Make the state only give out "civil unions" and allow marriage to be defined as a separate matter--the state isn't at all involved. Then individual groups can define it as their religion/ spirituality/ political stance/whatever sees fit.

I have a nephew who confided in me and my husband and let us know that he was gay. He knew we are both devoted Christians, but felt he could trust us to show him kindness.
He was right. We did inform him that we do not condone his lifestyle, and we pray that someday he will realize he is called for something better; but it is his choice and only God can judge him on this matter. He is still our nephew, and he is always welcome in our home.
In my opinion, civil unions are a workable compromise, (some people hate that word), but either we go back to living like the pilgrims, which no one really wants, or we accept the fact that there are guys in our world.

The bible also says that shellfish is an abomination, right after the mention of male homosexuality in Leviticus.

But that doesn't mean the government should ban lobster. We live in a country with secular laws: freedom and equal treatment are the government's responsibility.

Yes, the government should allow civil unions and/or gay marriage.

No I would not approve of civil union,. I would approve of marriage for same sex couples. They should have every right that is afforded to me or any other hetrosexual person, America is based on freedoms why should we treat someone any differently because of their choice in a partner.

I think any consenting couple over the age of 18 should be allowed a real and equal chance at marriage.

If it wasn't for a certain book telling everyone what to believe this wouldn't even be a debate.

Yes. I have no problem with them gaining the same rights everyone else is enjoying. From what I have seen, they just want to be able to claim their partners on taxes, insurance, etc... Every straight person has that right, why not them as well?

I have no problem with civil unions. I'm heterosexual and married. The way I see it civil unions or gay marriage have no affect on my marriage. Live and let live.
