I'd rather have personal experiences, rather than internet instructions. I haven't been successful and I'd like a technique that works.

I let mine soak for a day. First I roll up a towel and form it into a ring on a tray. Lay the watermelon down to rest on the towel so it won't roll over. Cut a hole in the top, not to big. Remove the cut out piece of rind and poke into the flesh of the watermelon with the handle of a wooden spoon. Poke in all directions through the hole into the flesh. When you've gone all the way around, pour the liqueur into the melon until it is full. Put the cut out piece of rind back in place and chill the melon. Periodically check to see if the liqueur has soaked in and pour in more. When serving remove the rind plug and pour out any liquid to drink. Then start to cut out chunks of watermelon starting at the hole.

Get a bottle of vodka (flavored if you're feeling ambitious-- orange works nice, Stoli strawberry or whatever vodka you want.) You need the liter size at least. Stabilize the watermelon either by cutting a thin slice off the skin (forming a flat base on the bottom) so it sits on a plate without rolling around. anyway you can stabilize the thing works though-- just make it not roll around. Then cut a bottle-neck sized hole in the top of the watermelon. I dumped out the watermelon juice a bit to make more room for the alcohol. Then (you may need a friend for this) pick up the watermelon and place the hole over the open bottle. In one super stealth movement flip the melon and the bottle over so the melon is sitting stable-ly on its base and the bottle is upside down draining into the melon. It will absorb the alcohol over about two days. If you have a nice pourous melon, you may need more vodka. If you use more than one bottle, eat VERY cautiously because that watermelon is gonna get you f***ed up!

Tequila and watermelon sounds good. Do it like a vodka melon, cut a hole in the melon just large enough for the top of the bottle to fit into, insert the bottle and turn it so the bottle is upside down. The liquor will slowly seep into the melon making it taste wonderful. That is almost enough to make me try it, but they do not make tequila without alcohol and I do not like the way alcohol makes me feel. The first effect to me is my face starts to go numb. But if you do 'soak' a watermelon, give me a call, I will try a small piece.

A nurse friend of mine uses a syringe and injects the melon with vodka. I have also seen the top of the watermelon removed along with some of the inside fruit and vodka poured inside, recapped with the piece that was removed and refrigerated. This method worked very well.

What they said. It works very well. Just be sure to store it in the refrigerator over night. It will work better that way.

If you're lazy, like me, just get the watermelon flavored vodka. Okay, so it's not the same, but I'm lazy! lol :o)

Peace

A day ahead, cut out a hole big enough to put the top of the vodka bottle in. Keep it that way overnight. Chill & serve. Enjoy.

using a sharp knife, cut a two-inch hole on the top side of the melon, and pour in a bottle of vodka (replace the rind on the melon and tape shut) and chill for at least 1 hour.

gut a hole into the side of the melon, pour a bottle of jose cuervo inside, replace the cut off piece, and let sit at least overnight. this is great for fourth of july parties, labor day parties, and of course, bday parties.
