Neither the war in Afghanistan nor Iraq could have been avoided by the U.S.A.. Afghanistan because of 9/11. Iraq because of all the crap that Saddam was up to that hadn't been dealt with. Iraq was pretty much put on hold when we walked away from the first war in, I believe it was 1991. Things with Iraq came to a head because of Saddam's actions and was fueled by what happened on 9/11. This was not a new issue, it had simply not been handled. As far as support goes, I think that more people support it than anyone (the media and the leftists) wants to admit. Many will try to tell you that even the soldiers don't support it anymore but, based on what I've learned (especially recently), they most certainly do.

I believe about 74% are opposed to it. I think the government should have stayed focused on the war on terror instead of getting sidetracked by this quagmire. They also need to recognize that conventional warfare isn't the answer to terrorism. Terrorists need to be tracked down like the criminals that they are and dealt with in the harshest possible way when they are found. The problem with the war is that our own troops don't support it anymore. At the beginning, there was a mission.....a purpose......a set plan. Now, there is nothing. All they do is walk around and get killed. I support the troops more than anything, but it's time for them to come home. They are getting killed....for what???
We cannot provide healthcare to our own citizens (many of which are children), we can cut social security, and we can destroy the lives of many military families......but it's ok.....cuz we rebuilt Iraq.....That sounds so wrong, shouldn't our people come first?

Not as many as the news lets on. You hear more on the street for support of troops and less support on the news. They just want the air time. Personally, I do not agree with the reason for our troops there, but they are there so I support letting them do the job right and then get out, but not till it is done.

As far as Sadaam goes, I think we should have whacked just Uday and Cusay, then bought the guy off and told him to play nice. He probably would have behaved himself with a kick in the rear and some cash.

I don't call it a war, just precautionary settlements to drive out and exchange the wrongdoings of the past dictators of that country. Religion and communications go rivaled and not to understanding of each others needs. Miscomuunications is one thought. They are a slower less educated country. Doubt many of them really read, only believe what is told to them, on how to behave and believe, instead of self proclaim opinions.
