When even Jesus says " If I bear witness of myself, my witness is not true" (John 5:31)...

k716: i'm glad you liked that... it doesn't change the meaning that "testimony on behalf of oneself is questionable"...

have you every heard of the genre of historical fiction? just because a book contains references to verifiable historical events doesn't make it truth.

your point from 2 kings only applies to the Tanakh, not the new testament.

and 2 tim 3:16 refers to the Tanakh, not the new testament, see v 15

It's called circularity. ie: the bible is true, because it's God's words, it's God's words because the bible says so. The bible is true, because it's God's words, it's God's words because the bible says so. The bible is true, because it's God's words, it's God's words because the bible says so...

He says elsewhere that if he does witness of himself, then that witness Is true. (one of the many blatant contradictions)

Nowhere does it say the Bible is True. Only one verse states "scripture is inspired of God". The problem comes when one believes that the Bible is that stated Scripture (when in fact during that time, only the Torah is considered Scripture - the New Test was not written nor adhered to in any way). Another problem comes with defining the word "inspired"... many seem to think it means dictated, when it doesn't. I can be inspired by Da Vinci to write about great art, but that hardly means Da Vinci is talking to me, nor that I have the Truth of the matter concerning him or his art when I write about him. A lot of people change the meanings of words in order to suit their religious beliefs.

I love how you omit the verses that follow your "proof".

Testimonies About Jesus
-----------------------------------
31"If I testify about myself, my testimony is not valid. 32There is another who testifies in my favor, and I know that his testimony about me is valid.

33"You have sent to John and he has testified to the truth. 34Not that I accept human testimony; but I mention it that you may be saved. 35John was a lamp that burned and gave light, and you chose for a time to enjoy his light.

36"I have testimony weightier than that of John. For the very work that the Father has given me to finish, and which I am doing, testifies that the Father has sent me. 37And the Father who sent me has himself testified concerning me. You have never heard his voice nor seen his form, 38nor does his word dwell in you, for you do not believe the one he sent. 39You diligently study the Scriptures because you think that by them you possess eternal life. These are the Scriptures that testify about me, 40yet you refuse to come to me to have life.

Jesus had witnesses all around Him, who testified to His miracles, and who He was. And the miracles He performed proved that God Himself sent Jesus.

The Bible is supported by archaeology. Proof of King Jehu (mentioned in 2 Kings 9-10) was discovered on an obelisk (a column of stone) found in 1846. The obelisk contains words and pictures recording Israel's conquest by an Assyrian king. The obelisk's information perfectly confirms what was recorded in the Old Testament.

II Timothy 3:16-17 -- 16All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; 17so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work.

Christians are trying to spread a "way of life'...living by the bibles rules. They state beliefs as factual statements to try to make them sound as if they were fact when they are actually beliefs.

perfect verse for the statement you made.

However, you do not have authority to interpret that verse before it goes through the spin doctor.

Because actual evidence to support it has been inconveniently lacking.
