I'm from Vegas and I've seen many many many many people do this. Heck I've even done it when it comes to that extra piece of baklava I love!
It is not proper etiquette, but I doubt very many people care.

So many self righteous people answering this! Makes me laugh because I bet I saw their drunk butts in Vegas doing this!
HAHAHAHAHAHA!

Why stop there? How about getting food for the next day, too? Or maybe for the entire week? If you plan it right, you can line that purse with plastic and you can eat out at the trough every third day, chowing down on the leftovers for the other two days.

Proper etiquette? No.

What it actually is: theft.

It's perfectly okay according to my mother in law. She and a group of fat, old bags go to all you can eat buffets a couple times a week at lunch when the prices are cheapest. They bring in big empty purses, foil, and baggies. After they fill their fat faces they go up for more food then wrap it up at the table and stuff their purses with the food. My fat mother in law and her fat friends are very proud of this. They feel this is the food that would have been thrown away at the end of the day anyway.
Waste not, want not.

I think the idea of "all you can eat" is "while you are there" - not "for the next few days".

If you are spotted you will (if lucky) just be told to leave, otherwise - as it is theft / attempted theft - you may find the police are called - they ARE called if someone persistently offends.

It is this sort of tackyness that spoils it for everyone else. Let me guess, you take along empty bottles to fill up when there is a free bar at a wedding reception?

( Why do I have this ghastly feeling I have just given you a new idea......)

No, it is not proper however, I have seen many, many people do it. The only thing I say is if you paid your money and you feel the need to 'take something home' - that' s on you.

I have been guilty of doing it. If it's on my plate and I didn't finish it - I will take it home. But I don't go back to the line and pile it up and then bag it up.

The bad thing about it all - they throw the leftovers out - and there are plenty of hungry people on the street who could have a decent meal......

no and if they catch you they will probably ban you from their establishment. They actually could have you arrested, because that is stealing. You should never take more than you can eat at that time.

It is poor etiquette and it is stealing. The business has a right to a fair profit and things like that lead to higher prices for the other folk.

Go for it! Those buffets are over priced and you should be allowed to take a normal portion of uneaten food home anyway. That is my opinion. You never really eat the amout you pay for usually.

It is never proper etiquette to steal. You only paid to eat while attending the restaurant, your not grocery shopping for the week.

Why not just bring in some grocery bags ...go into the kitchen ....and fill the bags? Same concept. Just less sneaky way of doing it.

You already know it is not proper. Whether we do it or not is more the question.

I had a friend who went to an all you can eat and ate a whole pan of pork chops! Finally, the cook came out of the back, stood over him and yelled, "Eat some vegetables. PLEASE!!!"

Just thought I'd share my favorite buffet story.

If you are in need, I can send some non-perishable foods to you.

I can sympathize with you being hungry, but I wouldn't suggest taking extras with you in your purse.

Now, if you have a piece of cheesecake on your plate that you couldn't eat, well then enjoy put it in a napkin and sure take home!

I wouldn't want to see you in jail, ma'am.
