If you have an AVID or Home Again Chip you don't need to worry. Also remember a lab setting is totally different then an actual real life setting. Consideration needs to be given to the number of dogs that have chips with absolutely no problems compared to the very small number that have had a problem. Also anything in the media of this nature needs to be taken with a grain of salt..it is often sensationalized..that is waht sells the news. If everyone paniced at every single thing out there that has "potential" to cause cancer no one would eat, drink, go out, buy products, etc..we'ld all live in a bubble with nothing.
All of my dogs are chipped and I wouldn't hesitate for a minute to chip any future dogs.
It has saved the life and reunited many pets with their owners.

My 15 1/2 year old Dachshund is chipped and has been all her life since she was just about 6 months old. She does not have any kind of cancer. I will take a 'wait and see' attitude about this. I really don't think the chip causes any problems in our dogs. They are certainly life savers frequently though!!

I had this conversation with my vet today. the report that the article took this from is over a year old. Since then it has been determined that it was not the chip that caused the problem but that it was the genetic make up of the dogs to have tumors in the first place.
I now have no worries about having my pup chipped when he's old enough to have one done.

The vet I work for specializes in microchipping and really believes in doing this. I have not heard anything about that.
The only reaction I have seen is the dogs skin rejected the chip and once the skin started to heal it pushed the chip out. But it was replaced for free, the company paid for it.

Where did you see this on the news?
My border collie mix had a chip and lived to a ripe old age of 15 and did not die of cancer.
Not believing it.
