Sesame tahini. The expiration date read Feb. of 2008 so I don't think they are rancid although they may be.

I think so. I try to make my own hummus with it, but really have to be careful about how much I use because I think it tastes really bitter.

It has a "bite" to it, but the tahini I've bought hasn't been bitter. I'm wondering if the jar you bought is old and the oil has turned a little rancid. Tahini doesn't have a high turn-over rate in many grocery stores, and it may have been sitting on the shelf for awhile.

Are you talking Sesame Tahini or what?

I think it has a sweeter, nutty taste. That's why it goes so well with lemon juice and garlic. You may have a bad jar.
