I think if you just start reading anywhere, you'll soon bump into something that at least implies the importance of reading the Bible. But here are some more scriptures:

II Cor. 5:7 says that we should conduct ourselves by faith in the Word of God, rather than by what our senses tell us. We can't have faith in it if we don't even know what it says. We also have to have that same faith in order to please God (Hebrews 11:6). To get that faith, Romans 10:17 says to keep on and on hearing it (that's the original Greek meaning of what is simply translated "hearing" in English).

I think reading the Word is the best way to absorb the most of it the fastest. You hear it in your mind a lot faster than if you just got little pieces from someone else.

Knowing the Word is also essential to fighting temptation. Jesus overcame Satan with "It is written" three times when He went into the wilderness to be tested.
