Why was he put onto soy formula in the first place? If he's not used to having dairy at all, the best thing would be to have a chat with your maternal health nurse or doctor. I was a vegan for a while, and it took me a long time to make the transition back to dairy.

Soy milk has all the nutrition dairy milk has without the lactose. I've been on soy/rice milks since I was a child because I am lactose intolerant. My daughter has been on soy milk as well for the same reasons. We also eat vegetarian cheeses. How you find out is when your child gets diahrrea from cows milk.

If he is lactose intolerant then you don't HAVE to go to cow's milk. I asked my daughters pediatrician at her 15 month appt and she said there is nothing wrong with soy milk (not the light ones of course) and its all personal preference.I switched her to organic soy milk and she's just fine and growing as she should. She still drinks regular milk once in a while if we are out, but she's not lactose intolerant so its fine.

Start tomorrow morning. Give him half whole milk and half formula. If he has a reaction it will be right away. Keep on eye on him for about 3 hours after he has it. Give him it this way for a whole month. Once he's one, give him straight whole milk.
My daughter was very colicky and had to be put on soy formula. I was terrified to start her on whole milk. It worked out wonderful. Don't worry he should be fine. He may have some diarrhea from the switch. If he is not showing any other signs like a rash or fever or severe vomiting, he's OK, the diarrhea will taper down in a couple days. Good luck!

I put my kids on soy from the begining, because it was gentle on the tummy, but at one year just gave them whole milk with no problems. Has he been diagnosed with lactose intolerant? if not give milk a shot lots of babys go from soy to whole milk. if so go talk to the doc.

My son has been drinking soy milk since he was about your babies age. Soy milk is fortified with just as much calcium as regular milk but doesn't have all those synthetic hormones that cows milk has. I think that from a nutritional point of view, soy milk is better for your baby. To add fat to your babies diet just put a little dab of butter on his food.

soy milk is just as good as regular milk, but you may want to find an addition source of fats for the first 6 moths after your switch, he will still need them for a while.

start slowly by mixing it with their formula if the drink 8oz. in a feeding start by giving them 2oz. of milk with 6oz. of formula and gradualy start giving less formula and more milk if a baby is lactose intolerant they will start spitting up more freqently.... and make sure to use whole milk because babies need the fat to help devolp their brains
