One of my friends is looking after a cat for a week at his flat and it's acting weird. It keeps standing near him with it's tail up in the air and then sort of vibrates it's ***, what he hell is it doing. He thinks it's spraying some scent but I think it must be gay, any advice please.

Apparently the cat has been done, whatever that means.

And it's the whole rear end that vibrates not just the ***, more like it's tail.

The cat is spraying and "being done" means he's been neutered. Being neutered is no guarantee that a male cat won't spray. Do you have cats? That could cause it. Sometimes they will do this tail shaking thing, aka spraying, and nothing comes out. That might be what is happening. If he is spraying urine you will see it and smell it. I have a cat that fake sprays. He's just going through the tomcat motions. Nothing to worry about.

I have a similar problem. We have two tom cats in the neighborhood that beat up my cats in their own yard and sprayed that foul tom cat urine all over my property. You can contact your town's animal control -- they'll place a have-a-heart trap, and when the cat is capture they will incarcerate it. Usually they try to reach the owners -- after that, it is dependent on the shelter. Some kill, some don't. You can also catch it yourself and get it altered -- I have a local shelter that will alter a stray tom for $25. Then you just let it go again. I know it doesn't seem fair to pay for it, but for such a trivial amount of money it can really make your life easier....

Yea,,, the cat is gay... Get real.. it is a cat... I am sure he has no attraction to your friend - although your friend may have an attraction to the cat - who knows these days. You have to be down really low on the floor to watch the cat's *** to vibrate. I think you all are putting too much into this cats ***. Most cats will keep their tails up in the air regardless of the cats sexuality.

The vibration is an attempt to spray, especially if the cat is up on his back toe tips (watch next time).

The cat's not gay. He's doing a cat thing and nothing is coming out (be grateful!)

A male cat that hasnt been done will spray everywhere and it stinks - if it sprays in the house, even scrubbing the carpet nvere gets rid of the smell. Do not volunteer next time unless the cat has had the op!

If you mean that the cat raises his tail and quivers it while treading/dancing with the hind feet, then this is a friendly greeting and means that he is really happy to see your friend. It's sometimes referred to as "feather-dancing" because the upright tail resembles a quivering feather. Cats that are sociable with each other, lift their tails so that the other can sniff their anal glands. It's just the cat way of saying "hello".

(If the cat were spraying, you would definitely see or smell it.)

If the cat is fixed it might be developing FLUTD. My cat started off doing that (he is spayed) and by the end of the week he was at the vets having a major operation. He nearly died.

I would be inclined to ring a vet and just ask them about this.

It's a natural tomcat thing to try and mark its territory; he's trying to mark your friend (or whatever he's backed up to) as his property. As he's been neutered he doesn't have the wherewithal to do the job properly, but it doesn't stop that instinct.
Your friend should be glad the cat's not intact, he'd sure know about it then!

Even though he has been "done", my male cat still pretends hes spraying !!! and also pretends to mate my spayed female cat, obviously the urge is still there to display natural Tom cat behaviour.
