Honestly...pain. I spent a good deal of my life avoiding pain..running from person to person, and never really surrendering to God. WHen He finally did make me sit down...and I had to trust Him through some painful things...I grew closer to Him. I've had experiences when my heart has hurt for other people, family who were unsaved... and it was so overwhelming that I cried out to Jesus..why..why do I feel this way..? Why do I care so much? Why cant I just..not care? Im saved..why do I care if they go to hell? and I heard the HS say to me..because Jesus wants you to understand how much He loves you and how much pain He felt when YOU were out of His WIll. It was then that I made God a promise that I would never again in life, cause Him that kind of pain and I've grown ever closer to HIm since then.

For me it was my bad marriage. I had little ones and no where to turn. That's what first brought me to the Lord. That was 31 years ago and he has lifted me up since then and brought great joy into my life. It's just like the scripture says, "If anyone be in Christ he is a new creature. Old things are passed away. Behold, I make all things new."

Elliot, I'm sorry you're depressed - wish you well on your recovery.
For me, it was seeing Him answer prayers that I hadn't even prayed yet and giving me provision for needs before I knew I had them. Nothing earth-shattering or worthy of newsprint, but just small things over the years that I KNOW were the hand of God working in my life, preparing me for where he wanted me to go. Things that didn't make a bit of sense at the time - like losing $32,000 on ostriches (VERY long story). At the time, I was really upset and angry about it and couldn't have predicted in the least how God would use that specific circumstance to put me where he wanted me, but it all made sense about 4 years later. Each one builds your faith a little more. Some people say they are closest to God when they get in trouble, but for me, I sense His presence more when things are going right in my life because I know it's not of my own doing and it gives me cause to praise Him for the work he's doing on my behalf.

I think the death of a friend has brought me closer to Him. The thought of knowing He is in control of our lives. It is us that choses whether or not to stay with Him or chose our own pathway in life.

Congratulation. I hope you will be able to change your name to "is not depressed" now.
I was born. It was the gift of life for me. I may have doubted at times, but His truth has been within me always. I know it now.

Saved my relationship. He always keeps his promises, no matter what they are or how insignificant or unrealistic they seem. "Whatsoever you ask in my name that i will do so that the Father may be glorified through the Son. If you ask anything in my name, I will do it." John 14:13-14 It's true, really it is. Just stick with it.
