They wouldn't take out my tonsils even with repeat infections, or my kids tonsils! I had to learn to adjust, since I didn't want all those antibiotics and my son is actually allergic.

We discovered Grapefruit Seed Extract. You can get it at your health food store or online at iHerb.com Just put 5-10 drops in about 6oz of water, gargle with it every 3 or 4 hours and you should be good to go in 24 hours or less. We discovered it on a bad infection in my son's throat. I researched since he couldn't take antibiotics and this one was lasting for almost a week! We were all AMAZED at how well it worked. GSE is a natural antibiotic, antiyeast, antifungal. It can be used for other things too, but you should dilute when you use it since it is so strong. The bottle has directions too. This is just how we used it.

Other things we have done in the past (and still do) were completely eliminate all sugar, since it feeds infections and lowers your immune response. Make some garlic toast by crushing a fresh clove of garlic into about 2 Tbsp of soft butter. Spread it on both sides of the bread and brown in a frying pan. Garlic is another great natural antibiotic. Drink lots of hot tea with honey (another natural antibiotic, antifungal).

And last but not least - get plenty of rest! I know my attacks always come after a lot of late nights or early mornings. The body needs to rest to recuperate.

Hope that helps, I know it really does here. I feel your pain - or have, literally, over and over and over. The Grapefruit Seed Extract really has made life much more enjoyable.

Tonsils when inflammed can be a possible source of or can have a sequalae of rheumatic heart disease.

Most of the cases are due to bacterial infection and should be treated by antibiotics. Some of the cases wherein tonsils produced or accumulate pus and heavy discharges, those are being treated by antiobiotics and drainage (surgical procedure). Removal is reserved for non-compliance to antiobitics or recurrent problems in one's tonsils.

Therefore, removal of tonsils is not the first option in the minds of us physician.

As long as you are not getting repeated attacks of strep throat or the tonsils interfere with your breathing you won't have to worry about getting them removed. It used to be a very common operation when I was a child but not so much anymore.

Years ago, I used to use a mixture of lemon juice and honey to sooth my throat. Now I use overproof white rum (and lemon). I suggest you stick to lemon juice and honey.
