A letter should be addressed "The Rt Hon the Earl of .......", or less formally, "The Earl of ..........", unless he is a Privy Counsellor. A letter would commence "Dear Lord ........", and should end "Yours faithfully".

Face to face, he should be addressed as "My Lord", initially, and "Sir" thereafter.

Sir. Have just looked it up. I typed the words addressing a baronet. it is quite a long article for which I do not have time. But very interesting.

I always said sir nowadays I would just say Mr whatever and if they dont like it too bad (60 plus in a wheelchair on oxygen I no longer give a............)

All adressed 'Lord ********' Usually surname, unless you know their full title.

A friend of mine is 'Baron ***** of Loughborough' but I just call him mate.
