Ive got a really bad back and have been seeing a chiropractor for a few months now, she said most people have about 6-8 sessions, but ive had 11 now, spent nearly £400, and my bad is still just as bad!
The only difference is, i get really bad pain in my neck, sholders and lots of headaches too. I have to click the bones in my neck and back regularly to ease pain.

Has anyone had good or bad experiences with chiropractors please?

I have found from both personal and my clinical experience that there are good and bad times for Chiropractic Therapy and it is dependent on both the Chiropractor and your health problem.

I have a left hip which recurrently locks up causing me to shift my back into an odd angle. I have found that this responds well to Chiropractic manilulation. However, when I had a low back injury and tried Chiropractic it made the condition worse and I improved very quickly once I started taking anti-inflammatories and muscle relaxants.

My wife has had nothing but bad results from Chiropractic, except for one practitioner who used Activator technique.

I have worked in healthcare for decades and specialise in Pain Management. Thus I see many chronic back and neck pain patients. I also have worked in clinic with a team if orthopaedic spinal surgeons for a couple of years to get further knowledge in spine and neck issues. We frequently worked with Chiropractors. We had them come in to team meetings. We found that in patients with purely musculoskeletal issues who were essentially healthy, they responded well to chiropractic manipulation. We primarily worked with Activator trained DCs. If I have a person call or ask about new onset low back pain, with no history of severe injury, and the patient is healthy, I generally send them to a Chiropractor first. The Chiropractors I send to know they can call me and I will assist them with prescibing anti-inflammatory drugs and muscle relaxants if needed. This combination often works better than either drugs or Chirpractic alone.

If you have attempted more than a month of Chiropractic and you see no relief which last longer than 24-48 hours after a session you need to see your GP. If this had been going on for months in my clinic you would have already had your MRI and a firm diagnosis.

Good Luck with your spinal issue.

I worked for a really great chiropractor for 2 1/2 years...and it does work! Although I will warn you that there are some fakes out there, just make sure you get a legitimate doctor...make sure they take x-rays first (or else it could cause you more harm than good) and maybe check with a local hospital to see if they have any chiropractors on board there, and try them out...that way you know they are professional. As long as you use discretion when choosing, you should have a good experience. Hope you feel better! Good luck! :)

I've been seeing Chiropractors for 30 years and two of them have become personal friends.

The only bad experience was that my ex wife left me for one of them!

All the ones I have had treatment from have been 'McTimoney Chiropractors'...don't know if that makes a difference?

My sympathy you have been unlucky,I went to one as a last resort for a painful shoulder and upper arm that was so bad I hardly slept.I used to lie in bed with my arm dangling over the side because that was the only way I got any relief. The Chiropractor cured it after three weeks of two sessions a week and one session per week for a further 4 weeks. Well worth the money .

personally I've found treatment by a chiropractor to be fantastic.
How ever they can only realign the vertebra, ease tendons back into their right places, and release trapped nerves.
As for the pain getting worse that is to be expected, your back has been miss aligned and the muscles got used to being stretched or over contracted so when the chiropractor puts them back they stretch to a new position and it is uncomfortable. By clicking the bones in your neck you are just undoing what the chiropractor has just done.

I cured my sciatica with this natural treatment ( http://cure-sciatica.info )
Normally, I would not answer a question like this as my expertise is generally in medication but I had severe sciatica while I was pregnant with my 3rd child (after having had twins) and I had sciatica so bad that I was finding it difficult to walk. I tried massage therapy and physical therapy and could not take medication
I went to the chiropractor and the pain was instantly relieved. My hips and lower back were out of alignment because I had carried twins the year before. On occasion a Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) can also work but they usually only work on one joint at a time - the chiropractor will do your whole back which works faster. Anyone who does not believe in chiropractors will tell you they are quacks - don't listen.
I don't necessarily believe that chiropractors can cure things like diabetes but they can definitely relieve some types of back pain especially if a pinched nerve is involved which is usually the cause of sciatica.

I would NEVER use just a Chiropractor...... what you need to do if its a longer term injury is to go to an Osteopath as well, who can help sort the muscular as well as skeletal problems using manipulation and massage.

If you are having problems with the Chiropractor you are using, STOP! It could really be doing you more damage than good, your pain could be as a direct result of your treatment causing nerve inflammation. If the problem is that bad, make an appointment with your doctor and get an X-ray done of the problem area, that would give them a visual reference of what is actually wrong.

Hope you get it sorted, back pain really is a killer!!!
