You can take if it is really needed however there are some imposed risks. Co-Codamol is paracetamol with a low dose codeine content.

Though is true that codeine are sometimes prescribed for pregnant mothers in need, I won't expose my unborn baby to any potential risk of harm as much as I can. Though tagged as safe if used properly, there was no actual research done to prove that.

For now, safety has been established with paracetamol use during pregnancy. If you need a pain reliever, better stick to it. If you are in real need of something else more than just paracetamol, always consider consulting your doctor for proper guidance on safe usage.

I'm not a nurse doctor or midwife but when I was pregnant first time I had horrific migraines and I still wasn't allowed to take anything stronger than paracetamol, Don't forget whatever you ingest so does your baby and co-codamol are extremely strong I would never think of taking them when I was pregnant or breast feeding.

There is skepticism about this in the medical field. While the action of codeine on the fetus is minimal addiction is possible and your chld may suffer codeine or opiad addiction when born, but only if you take it in high doses. But if you are going to take it do not take it with paracetamol.

Another question - What are you taking the painkillers for...?

Codeine has a pretty good safety record in pregnancy, and it's prescribed with some frequency, even in the vulnerable part of the pregnancy you'll be in for the next few weeks.
