Pedophilia, or pathological "fondness" of pre-puberty children. Why is that in modern society people with this disorder are shunned, harassed and prosecuted. It is like in the dark-ages, when people who where mentally ill where thought to be posesed by the devil and so imprisoned or placed under house arrest, this is the same thing happening with these patients. Isn't it about time that we stop prosecuting these people and get them the help they need. We don't prosecute people for having a heart condition, high blood pressure or cancer, do we?

Most people do not even really understand what pedophilia actually means, it means "pathological fondness or arousal by pre-puberty children"
Most think and adult who has an affair with a 14 or 15 year ol is a pedophile, I even heard of people considering a 15 year old a pedophile who likes a 12 year old

SOCIETY SHOULD WAKE UP!!!!!

And the difference between high blood pressure and being a criminal pedophile is the victim is a child that you harm for the rest of their life. You are one sick individual if you think a heart condition and being sexually attracted to an innocent child is the same thing. I pray you are never alone with my or any other children.

There are treatment programs; but as far as I can tell, there is little evidence that the treatment actually works. The state mental health program I work for has a sexual predators program, but most of the patients were referred by the prison system and and they generally go back to prison after the treatment is completed.

The problem is that if someone acts on the impulses of pedophilia, he or she has committed a crime by doing so. It's not the "fondness" that gets them in trouble, it's actually doing it.

I think that anyone who is able to restrain the urges and to willingly submit to treatment has a good chance of finding someone who is willing to help, but few pedophiles do this; most of them seem to avoid talking about it until they get arrested.

It's difficult for me to have much sympathy for pedophiles, especially if they are not willing to admit they have a probem. I have urges to have sex with random women but as a married man I resist these urges. They should do the same in regard to children.

As the survivor of sexual abuse when I was nine years old and having had to relive it when two of my daughter's were molested at the ages of nine and six. I totally disagree with you. I have high blood pressure, heartburn, arthritis, migraines and I deal with chronic depression. None of these has ever given me the urge to touch a child except to take care of my children up to about age five when they began to bath themselves. I hope that you can see the difference between doing something on purpose and maybe wanting to do something and having the control and maturity to not act on it. If you don't I feel sorry for you.

Familiar with Social Services, Child Protection issues, and with the horrendous damage seen in survivors of sexual-abuse, I wish to respond. For an adult to knowingly and willingly involve a child in sexual activity, or to promote the use of a child in acts or photos........is to inflict a lifelong sentence of guilt, shame, and emotional-mental-relational problems on that younger person.

In our Society, based solely on the massively detrimental lifelong effects of the child, pedophilia is and should be a
legal and moral crime.

The moral job of every adult in society, is to protect its children from damage.

Social Services is well aware that THERE IS NO KNOWN CURE for pedophiles. Once a danger -- always a danger.

Wow, as a victim of a pedophile I would have to say your out look on this sickness offends me. The reason we don't prosecute people with heart conditions, high blood pressure or cancer is because these dieseases do not directly effect the life of another person. Yet alone a small child. Now if the person wants to get couseling and do what it takes so they do not harm a child, then more power to them. But saying we should feel sorry for them makes me sick.

If you have that tendency, it is OK.

But if you act upon it and victimize a child, you will be prosecuted.

This is like robbing a bank. You have no money and you feel like having some money. You go and grab it where you can find it. If it does not belong to you, you go to jail.

Also this is just like rape. You can not justify it on the basis of natural instinct to have sex.

Those who say there are no effective treatment programs for pedophiles are wrong. There are, in fact, many quite effective programs in use today. The belief that pedophiles can't be treated is a myth. No one chooses to be a pedophile. Pedophilia is a compulsive/addictive disorder and can be treated the same way other compulsive/addictive disorders are treated.

Agreed that a Pedo Perv needs help. Do not agree that Heart disease and Pedophilia are the same thing. Id like to see that argued in court.

paedophiles are considered dangerous because they kidnap and abuse and kill children and ok that may not be all of them but its all of them you hear about those that rnt as long as you dont shout around you like children then no one knows no one shuns and its different from an illness such as cancer because that doesnt make some people do disturbing things peadophiles are looked on that way because some of them are dangerous just like other people with mental illness or even dangerous animals such as pitbulls its also because the media portrays them badly just like with many other thigns such as teenagers and muslims so its not just peadopjiles that are singled out

you won't get any agreement from me on this one. Study after study have shown that there is no effective treatment or cure for pedophilia.....today's common definition of a pedophile is someone who has actively pursued and interacted sexually with and thereby caused harm and often death to a prepubescent child.
In my opinion such people should be ostracized, jailed and kept apart from society.....to date, there is no cure for them, and I would rather see children safe.
