sdb deacon: Where in Scripture exactly does it say that these are either no longer required or just good practices? If it does not say specifically for us not to do them, does that mean we should?

tebone0315; Yes, and all the 10 Commandments (which are part of the 613) can be summed up by two: Love the Lord Your God with all Your heart, mind, soul, and strength and Love your neighbor as yourself.

Ellenaj; But where does it say we no longer have to follow them? Has God changed? Has the Word of God changed along with the times?

goinupru: the Greek word for end is telos and it means goal or limit. It is implied by religious scholars that it means end. Sometimes, it means conclusion, but by the same token result would be just as good a use when saying conclusion. So when you say that Christ is the goal or result of the Law, now you have changed the meaning up of that whole sentence.

djmantx: Romans 10:3 says, "For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God."

Is it possible that Law that Paul is referring to is the same one that Jesus decried in Matthew 15:3. The tradition of the elders (Talmud) had superceded the commandments of God for the Jews.

If the all Scirpture is inspired by God and is to complete a man (or woman) (2 Timothy 3:14-17) and Paul was inspired to write to Timothy to continue in, then how is it that these commandments of God are no longer profitable for doctrine, and no longer able to make us complete? Are we not to continue in them as Paul commanded Timothy to do?

Yeshua said, in the 5th chapter of Matthew's gospel, that until the heavens and the earth pass away, not one "jot" or "tittle" would pass from the Law (Torah). That means that not the smallest letter of the Torah would change. So I guess I'm posing a question back to you. Have the heavens and the earth passed away?

Has everything in the Torah and the Prophets been fulfilled? Look at Isaiah 17.1. Damascus, the oldest city on the earth is to be destroyed, and this hasn't happened. Besides, the Prophets spoke a lot about the Millenial Kingdom, and that SURELY hasn't come to pass.

Every word of the law is in effect until all is fulfilled. Sin always required that something die, and this is still in effect. Either something (an animal) dies for your sin...or YOU die. Now, either YOU die or you accept the death of the Messiah. Nothing has changed...just the method of atonement.

I think we have gone astray in the church, and we MUST get back to the pure teachings of the Messiah. Malachai says that God does not change...He CANNOT change. There has been one God from the very beginning, and there has only been one way to Him from the very beginning. Faith isn't something new. Grace isn't something new. So the answer is yes. These aren't hard Commandments that we can't keep. NONE of the Commandments are too hard if we truly love the Father.

Shalom U'vracha (Peace and Blessings)

244. The prohibiton on mating two animals of different species (Leviticus 19.19) Still a good idea
245. Not to sow different kinds of seed together, etc.(Leviticus 19.19) Still a good idea
248. Not to eat or drink in the manner of a glutton or drunkard (Leviticus 19.26) Still good practice
249. The prohibition against practicing augury (divination) (Leviticus 19.26) Still in effect
250. The prohibition against the practice of conjuring (Leviticus 19.26) Still in effect
251. The prohibition against rounding off the temples of the head (Leviticus 19.27) Not necessarily this specific practice, but avoiding worldliness is still spiritually sound.
252. The prohibition against marring the edges of the beard (Leviticus 19.27) See above
253. The prohibition against inscribing any tattoo in one's flesh (Leviticus 19.28) We're still healthier and happier without tattoos
255. The prohibition against acting as an 'ov--a medium (Leviticus 19.31) We have no reason to talk to the dead
256. Not to function as a yid'oni, a kind of wizard (Leviticus 19.31) Still in effect

No ...the commandments , which numbered 613 or so, were to the Nation Israel. God instituted the law when Israel didnt want to be dealt with in Mercy.

The purpose of the law was never to make a man righteous, but to show a man how truly far from being righteous he really was. The Bible tells us that the law is a schoolmaster to lead a man to the ONLY one who ever DID keep the whole law. Once we have been led to Christ, and believe the gospel of OUR salvation about His death, burial and resurrection being sufficient to reconcile us to a HOLY GOD, then the law (these commandments) have done their perfect work.

In this present age of Grace, we are not under the law, but under GRACE.

"Christ is the end of the law (commandments) unto righteousness to all who believe" He fulfilled the requirements of the law FOR us.

We are COMPLETE in Him, the Bible says.

Romans 7:5&6 "For when we were in the flesh, the passions of sins which were aroused by the Law were at work in our members to bear fruit to death. But now WE have been DELIVERED FROM THE LAW, having died to what we were held by, so that we should serve in the newness of the SPIRIT and NOT in the oldness of the Law." (emphasis added)

Galations 2:11 - 3:14 (Summarized): The Law was given to condemn us to spiritual death. When Christ came, He brought new life of grace through faith, therefore if we are alive in Christ, we are dead to the Law!
Law = Curse Of Sin / Death through our fallen nature
Faith = Promise of Life / Grace through Jesus

The Law, both Commandment AND restitution, are a package deal - The Old Covenant! When Jesus overcame the blood sacrifice of the Old Testament, He opened the door of faith and grace to those who put their trust in His sacrifice at the cross for our propitiation - The NEW Covenant! The Law remains for those who do not accept Jesus as Messiah / Lord / Saviour, but for those who DO, HIS grace is sufficient and is greater than the Law! Hebrews 10 tells us this Christ, not only our total and PERMANENT sin offering, is now also our High Priest, interceding for us daily at the Throne. His atonement ONCE FOR ALL eliminated the need for the Law in the lives of the FAITHFUL, because it is unable to save! For the disciple of Christ, we have a new Guide - The Comforter, The Holy Spirit, Who uses the Law to teach us, but is ultimately our Guide to lead us into ALL truth! (John 14, 15, and 16, especially 16: 5-11)

None of these are commandments. They are laws for the people of Israel. As such, if the modern Israeli Government doesn't recognize them, they don't have to. It does say in the new testament not to associate with witches and wizards, or practice witchcraft, so that could cover the ones about augury, mediums, and wizards. And it also says it's okay to drink, but you should refrain from getting drunk.

The ones about not doing divination, conjuring, being mediums or wizards are still applicable.

It's suggested to not be drunk/gluttounous, but I doubt you'd go to hell for it.

I don't think the tatoo or beard one applies - it might've meant something symbolic/religious back then though.

And the rounded head one just sounds painful... so I bet it goes against the main one of "love your neighbor as yourself" - again it might've had religious symbolism back then.

I don't know about the agricultural ones. They could be applied to hybrid crops or genetic experiments today, and probably had practical applications back then.

The main ones people focus on now are the famous 10 commandments.

Most likely, YES, by the adherents of Orthodox Judaism. They follow all the Mosaic Laws according to the sacred scriptures, Torah.

Now as far as Judeo-Christians go... it's a crap shoot. I'd be more inclined to say NO, those laws are not being followed by them today.

Peace be with you.

You insist Christians be conscious a covenant regulation to which they have been in no way a celebration to, opposite to the N.T. teachings as introduced out in Acts 15 and Galatians 4:21-5:a million. here, the church is advised to forged out people such as your self. and you accuse ministers of the international who as a outcomechronic extreme-high quality autos, etc. yet your ministers are those getting fat off the exertions of others. i'm specific that once you're in Abilene Texas you would be staying in a sales area you built your self extremely of a snug hotel room. You unfavourable deluded soul. you think the regulation continues to be inviolate all the way down to jots and tittles, then, whilst your minister-wolves alter the regulation to greater healthful themselves, you think them and back their alteration of the regulation of tithing. Tithes have been in no way commanded or required of wages. A tithe grow to be the upward thrust of produce and farm animals purely. this is the regulation. salary earners did no longer pay tithes. this is the regulation. .

Christians pick and choose which stuff to believe. You know, it's only the word of God for them, nothing to be taken too seriously.

Or like this whitehorse guy does, he interprets the sins to his suiting. For example "To eat or drink in the manner of a glutton or drunkard really means that I shouldn't drink 20 beers a night. Yep I'm pretty sure God said somewhere in the Bible that 20 is the drunkard limit."
