If you look at conservative as meaning someone who wants to "conserve" a certain tradition or set of ideals, then probably there are more people like this in established religions. They find comfort in conformity.

Someone who is open or "liberal" will find it harder to find a church that fits in with all of the things that they believe, and may tend to take pieces of this or that faith and make their own way of finding God.

BTW, this is not an insult on either choice. To each his/her own.

Religion-mongering seems to go well with conservative values. Studies indicate that conservatives have great difficulty being flexible or comprehending more than one set of values. But the underlying principles of compassion and social justice seem more suited to liberals.

Most American Buddhists are quite liberal. So are Unitarian Universalists. Just to name two off the top of my head.

Absolutely not! Except for abortion, legalizing recreational drugs, allowing gay marriage and abolishing capital punishment, I'm pretty liberal.

Religion and politics are not the same thing.

not at all, although sometimes it seems that way...a lot of conservatives peg me as Godless because i'm fairly liberal, and a lot of 'non-believers' peg me as a right wing republican because i'm a born-again Christian-so i catch it from all sides...it makes things interesting

There are many religions that go hand in hand with more liberal ideals.
