Assuming that you don't have to tend to any injuries to yourself, spend some time doing something useful like making/finding a shelter while you still have the energy. It doesn't have to be fancy, just keep you from dying from exposure. Water would be your next priority. Food would be lower down on the list.

Stay with the wreck. Try to make yourself as visible as possible. An airplane is really pretty tiny against a lot of open country. An individual is damn near invisible. Scavenge anything you can from the wreck for all of the above. ELT, mirrors, fuel, whatever you can think of.

At some point, you may have to weigh the decision to walk out of the boonies. You're pretty desperate then. At that point you're weak, dehydrated and probably not thinking too clearly. The odds are that you have a good chance of ending up as vulture food if you do. It has been done, but it's a low percentage play.

grupy geaser is correct in most of his post the only thing that I would like to add is make your shelter away from the wrecked plane and don't use the plane as shelter unless you have no other options.

Build shelter not too large just big enough for you and don't use parts of the plane it will look attractive to use the metal parts but the metal will make you cold.
Build a fire make it a reflector type of fire where there is a reflector at the back of the fire to project heat into your shelter.
Depending on supplies in the plane and time of day you may want to look for water. If there is no clean water or any water at all you should look into making either a solar still you should be able to make still with the windows of the plane.
Those are the first 3 priorities because you can go without food for a couple of days.
Next you will have to look to rescue and how to make yourself more visible.

The first three steps are learnt by the Boy Scouts.

Jimmbbo is genuine. maximum critical airplane injuries are frequently the top results of human errors - frequently the pilot. that may no longer a remark against pilots frequently. that's amazingly trouble-free to make a "somewhat" incorrect selection interior the climate, to neglect some significant area of the platforms instruction manual, or to no longer comprehend how drained you have become. Pilots are merely human beings. it particularly is an undesirable tragedy each and every time it occurs, and every time the FAA tries to take some extraordinary action to attempt and forestall a recurrence. yet then another no longer likely blend of activities occurs that no-one anticipated. this is the character of flying.

If you can, find the ELT and make sure it was activated.

An ELT is an Emergency Locator the sends a signal so you can be found. If possible, remove it from the plane and keep it with you.

Do not disturb the site. The NTSB will want to do their Investigation.

And I guess I'll include a stupid smart-aleck answer like everyone else, if you have a cell phone, dial 911 or if you crashed in a populated area, borrow someones phone.

Gather your senses, say a prayer of thanks and move slightly away from the aircraft. Tend to injuries if any and collect anything which may help in your survival with water and food as top priorities. Arrange a shelter. Donot strain yourself, you will need all your energy to stay alive. Keep any dry wood or anything other flammable material nearby to raise smoke if you hear aircraft in you vicinity.

These days the chances are that once the aircraft is overdue, search parties will start looking for you immediately. Donot despair and keep your spirits high.

Remeber, you only survive if you have 'the will to survive'.

Get the pilot's insurance info from his wallet----then decide how best to survive and sue the pants off em....good motivational thoughts to sustain you.
If it were me, I'd set up camp somehow depending on the crash location and weather and any injuries or not.... cut or wrench one of the tires loose to burn with some gas from the plane for a smoke signal when the spotter planes come looking in a couple of days....if the &%!@#% pilot filed a flight plan. Food, shelter ,water ,comfort and any signalling means you can think of like smoke and mirrors. Wait a couple of days and figure out the best way out on foot.

Get a safe distance away from the plane. It could still explode with fuel onboard. If your not far away from towns find a road, etc. If your in the ocean PRAY!

Sit down and relax for maybe 20 minutes. You want to relax and collect your thoughts before doing anything at all. STOP= Stop, Think, Observe, and Predict
