So you think English signs in Wales should be pulled down too, do you? Keep only the language of that country...I wouldn't mind but the holidaymakers would cause a fuss.
'Dave'...If you're going to write in Welsh, make sure it's correct and understandable. That was total drivel.
Os wyt ti am ysgrifennu yn Gymraeg, gwna'n siwr dy fod yn ysgrifennu'n gywir. Mae dy iaith yn gywilyddus.
'Stella S' and 'loadsmorewine'...don't you think a country has the right to road signs in its own language?? How would you feel if someone advocated removing the English signs from England?

I used to travel a lot abroad and unless I was in an airport, main train station or a tourist attraction etc, the usual rule was that any signs were in the native tongue of that particular country, that's how it is and should stay.
If I stayed for any length of time in a different country the least I could do to show my respect was make an attempt to learn at least the basics of their language. It not only makes things easier but is appreciated by the locals.
People that want to come to this country fine, but make an attempt to learn the lingo and fit in.
We're too liberal, I'm not a racist but we've gone to far the wrong way by letting all and sundry do as they wish and then changing things to suit them.
I believe that when you're in Rome you do as the Romans do !

The non UK Languages yes. Those who immigrate permanently should learn the language. it seem s that in Muslim families this is being discouraged particularly for women because it would make them less dependant on the man

I agree, maintaining a single language helps preserve uniformity as well as ensuring that for everyone living in the UK, there is a compelling reason to have a working knowledge of everyday english

Absolutely not!
On the contrary the more languages, the better!
That is how curiosity and education is encouraged.
Besides, that would be very useful for tourists...
However, UK should sure tighten up the immigrations rules.
2 millions of Muslims in a little England, that is much too much and very dangerous.
And they are still trying to treat their women as laves and children making machines, and kill them when they disobey.
The progress should be encouraged, in any form, and education is the part of it, multy-linguistic environment including.

Putting down signs assisting people who do not speak english will not solve the problem and will not really encourage them to learn the language - it will only make them more dependent to those few who speak it (i.e. women) and can exploit them. You need other measures.
Besides, as a tourist in the UK, not speaking english, II would be happy to be able to find my way. When I travel to Germany, Italy or France, I hate it when they only have signs in their native language.

It depends whether you mean roadsigns or (legal) advertising signs. Roadsigns should be kept to a minimum and should be only in English (yes, Wales too). People can put legal advertising in whatever language they like. The fact that at substantial proportion of the population are foreign is a far, far more serious problem, that we need to address.

They should place these English signs in Calais, or in any other place that offers access to England. Maybe we could turn them back before they even got there!?.
