my friend said that if you dont move your jaws around, you'll get stuck like that. It's the 5th day since my surgery and i still have the dissolvable stitches and can't open my mouth all the way... if i dont try moving it around, will it really get stuck?

You won't get lock jaw but your jaws will be sore from the surgery. I tell all patients who have this surgery to do this exercise.

Take two hot, damp towels, place them on both sides of the face. As the moist heat starts to soothe the soreness, gently begin to open and close, stretching open a little wider each time. This will help you regain the full function of your mouth by getting the blood flowing back into the muscles of the jaw that are sore from being stretched open so wide and for so long during the surgery. You should also be taking Advil or Motrin to help reduce the swelling and inflammation. Hope this helps you as it has so many others. You should start feeling some relief immediately from the exercise.

your friend is ignorant. NO you won't get stuck like that.
Lockjaw is a disease caused by the tetanii bacillis, also known as tetanus. that is why you have a tetanus shot every ten years. You will be limited in your movement until those stitches are gone and that is as it should be. Relax.
