EVERY BABY DESERVES TO BE CELEBRATED!!! Showers aren't JUST about gifts...it's about bringing together this child's community of adults to celebrate the excitement of the new arrival. That isn't greedy....it's fun and exciting!
Go for it.....seriously. Especially since your friend has offered....

The baby shower is to celebrate the baby, what's wrong with that? It isn't like you are holding a $200 a plate dinner or something, usually people bring smaller gifts for later babies. Or even none at all.
(And it isn't rude to throw your own shower, what's rude is when other people throw a shower and either a) don't invite your friends or your friends don't invite your family or b) throw a shower dispite the mothers wishes)

I'm in the same boat as you. I'm 21 weeks with #2 and I have some new friends that weren't at my first shower so they want me to have another one. I think I might have one but it won't be the "traditional" baby shower like the first one. Girfts will be optional and it will be a get together for everyone and play games and stuff.

not sure if rude is the right word
can she not call it a baby shower, maybe some kind of party, gifts optional
or if the sex is different have a clothes and diaper party (especially if it's girl, everyone loves to buy girl clothes)

My aunt and a few of my mom's friends had baby showers for their second baby. I don't think it's rude at all.

I think every child should be celebrated, not just the first. The second shower will be better for people because you don't need all the big things, just a few outfits, and books or something.

I think it's rude to throw your own shower, but why would it be if your friend would like to do it for you? I think it's a good idea to welcome the new baby, and even better if it's a different gender this time.

I'm in the same situation. I've decided that since my mom and best friend want to have one for me then it's fine. If people think it's "greedy" then they can choose not to come. I think though that I want this one to not just be fore the girls, but have my husband and his friends too. We can be more casual about it. Also, I want to have really nice parting gifts too.

I wouldn't say rude. I'd call it greedy.
Usually you receive gifts for baby number two after they are born.
