the catholics are taking a page out of the scientologists handbook.

next thing you know, they will be claiming that that very same page was actually 1000 years old and penned by jesus.

I guess if you have tried something once it is worth trying again.
The first time it was the law I believed it was called the Inquisition.

But then again, some may believe we should forget history and give everyone a chance. That we need to forgive and forget and be more concerned that we might "offend" someone. Why? So they can do it again?

I am not critiquing one religion, I am just concerned that we NOT make ANY mistake, especially similar ones we've suffered persecution for in the past.

PS: This question does ask if the catholic league has gone too far with trying to censoring people from speaking about catholics? Right?

SUCH AS the following article......

I for one did not base my answer upon the comment, it was based on the question.

But then again, some may comprehend much better than I.

You seem to have failed to read the story.

Ms. Griffin did not speak out about Catholics. She made "off-color remark about Christ."

The Catholic League is not taking anyone to court. They simply used their freedom of speech and protested her insult to God.

In her speech, Kathy Griffin said that "a lot of people come up here and thank Jesus for this award. I want you to know that no one had less to do with this award than Jesus."

She went on to hold up her Emmy, make an off-color remark about Christ and proclaim, "This award is my god now!"

The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences agreed with the Catholic League and said in a statement, "Kathy Griffin's offensive remarks will not be part of the E! telecast."

Can you imagine the uproar if Ms. Griffin had said "Allah" instead of "Christ"?

With love in Christ.

What are you talking about!?!?

It was the TV networks that had her censored. The Catholic organization you're refering to just condemned her remarks, which they should. What ms. Griffin said was unquestionably offensive.

This post makes you sound like an anti-Catholic. Did you actually read the article.

Edit: after reading the posts above me I can see that what I just wrote won't matter. It seems people will believe what they want about the Catholic church.

Chris: what are you talking about? The Catholic church has actually given public apologies for offenses its members have committed, and paid millions of dollars to victims of child abuse. I hope you enjoy being full of hate.

I'm very surprised that the Catholic League's opinion was even considered. I've heard what I consider to be more offensive on TV before this.

Try making public disparaging remarks about Jews and see what an uproar there would be. But supposedly similar remarks about Christians are acceptable. The last politically correct form of bigotry is anti-Christian bigotry, and particularly anti-Catholic bigotry.

Kathy Griffin had every right to say what she believes. It's odd how people can indeed thank Jesus for everything in public but when someone says Jesus had nothing to do with it they get censored. I'm surprised the Academy bowed to that kind of pressure.
