Check with the Police Department where you want to work and find out the classes you need. Apply to their Academy.

That question has several answers... the first thing you need to decide is where you want to be an officer. Some smaller departments only require a high school diploma and a drivers license. Others, like the Michigan State Police, require a bachelor's degree. Almost all require an Associates Degree, and state certification. I suggest you decide "where" first, then you will know "what" you need.
Most larger departments and state agencies have thier own academies, which take care of the classes required to be state certified.

You can apply at the police academy or get hired on by an agency. The down side of the police academy is you have to pay out of your pocket, but when you graduate you won't have any problem finding a job, you can almost pick where you want to go. It's hard getting hired first, you have to know someone or get lucky.
