Itchy is the only way to describe it really, could i be allergic?

It's possibly a pesticide problem. Bananas are subjected to even more pesticide spraying because they have a thick skin, but some of it might have rubbed off on your hands and then found its way to your mouth.
It's actually quite mind-boggling how much pesticides people eat. Be especially wary of imports from Chile and South Africa. If I eat an apple from there, my lips go numb for the next hour. It is not an allergy because I can eat other apples just fine.

Yes, you are allergic and should steer clear of them. I have the same problem but I also always get an asthma attack with it too. Just walking into the same room as an open banana can make me wheeze.
Allergies can get worse with each exposure so best to avoid them. See your doctor for more of an explanaition and maybe antihistamines or adrenilin injection. Depending on how severe the allergy is.
For me, same goes with prawns.

Sounds like you could be allergic. My mum cannot touch a fresh banana or even think about eating it, but she is fine with dried banana, maybe you should try some

Allergic reactions
There are two forms of banana allergy. One is oral allergy syndrome which causes itching and swelling in the mouth or throat within one hour after ingestion and is related to birch tree and other pollen allergies. The other is related to latex allergies and causes urticaria and potentially serious upper gastrointestinal symptoms.

i have the same problem with pineapple sounds like an allergy check with doctor i had a allergy test at hospital and found out i was allergic to 8 of the 15 things they tested for .

Have you tryed Organic Bananas?
I get ill from non organic only.
lots of chemicals used with banana packaging to kill al the bugs / spiders that live between the bunches.

you could be, are you allergic to latex. if you are the chances of you being allergic to bannanas would be highly likely. this is a bad allergy to have and if you think you are stop eating the bannanas and avoid latex, this allergy gets worse over time and could lead to death.

Mine does too when I eat bananas and cantaloupe....I assume it's an allergy.
