My cousin is 14 and she is now in a adoption facality due to the death of her father. He father died 2 days ago and her mother was granted full rights. (he had full custidoy) Her mother doesnt want her and his new gf doesnt want her either. So, she is sitting in a adoption facality untill the funneral. What is the process for me to adopt her? I'm 24 and just bought my own house. I live there with my boyfriend but I just want her to be able to come and live with us instead of a adoption home. Can I just have gardian rights instead of adoption? What is the process and what do I need to do?

Call the head of the facility where she is now and talk to them. It should be easy since she is not too young. Good Luck and God Bless You for caring!

If your over 18, petition the state to become a foster parent. It takes time, however, the state will in most cases allow it when it is a family member that is petitioning. i dont know what it is in your state, but in mine they offer compensation for foster parents that would go to her and you.
You could also hire a lawyer to see if you could adopt her yourself. The (you can even call her a mother is she does not want her child) mother would have to sign over all rights.
If you are under 18, then there is really nothing you can do unless you persuade your parents or someone elses to t ake these steps mentioned above.
Good Luck, and just let her know that she is loved by someone.

I would talk to the mother and ask her to sign over rights! Call the facility and get your questions answered there as well! Most of the time, they would rather have the child with family than a stranger!
good luck!!! at least you have a heart!

If the mother hasn't signed custody to the state, she can give it to you.
You could always call CPS and see what you need to do. You'll probably have to take parenting classes and provide proof that you're financially stable enough to care for her, but after that process is done they'll probably have no issues giving you custody.

Ask her mom to sign over all rights to you unless she already signed them over to the state then contact the state and get ahold of your cousins case worker -hopefully they will let you get her. They should unless you or your boyfriend has any felonys aginst you and they might still consider it depending on the charge good luck. but my bf was taken when he was 15 and his sister was 26 and they wouldnt let her take him.

i agree, call the facility, and also look up some lawyers in the area who offer free conultations, ask them the legalities, it sounds like you could be a good candidate for legal guardianship.
good luck
