Not any more than wearing makeup or coloring your hair. There is no hell, only the one you create in your own mind. Peace Little Sister.

I don't believe in hell, but I'm a (semi) religious Jew.

Unfortunately, the Torah (a/k/a the first five book of the Christian Bible) forbids "marking the flesh"... among other things. (Oddly enough, piercing is permissible.)

But, all people make mistakes. I know I have... and will continue to do so... as will others.

Heck, I've got seven (huge) tattoos, and several piercings... and I don't plan on stopping anytime soon.

Am I going to suffer eternal damnation? I think not....

I'm interested to hear what the tattoos are of. I'm don't think it's a sin, but then I've got a growing tattoo collection and multiple ear piercings, and they don't go against my Pagan beliefs.

Tattoos are mentioned specifically in the Bible as something we aren't supposed to do, but it isn't unforgivable. No such thing as a fiery hell, so you won't go there. It might be hell on earth for you to try to get a well paying job with all that, um, decoration.

Christ likens our bodies to a temple of the spirit. Just as the physical temple, or house of God, should be kept clean in reverence for the Savior, so should we keep our bodies clean and pure as the recepticle of the spirit. In other words, the Holy Ghost cannot visit us or dwell within us if we knowingly and willing defile our bodies to make them unclean or impure. We are disrespecting God and our own spirits by defiling our bodies with piercings and tatoos.
So is it a sin? In my estimation, the way I understand the workings of the spirit, yes, it is.

motive is thequestion here not practice. Example one might get a tatoo to list ones allergys or other medical directions like do not cut off this one. Piercings alsop have legitamate uses. The guiding light seems to me is pride involved.

some religions consider it a "sin" b/c you are changing your body that God gave you...and your body is your temple to respect and take care of...but it really depends what religion you are and you could talk to your rabbi, priest, or imam...but I know for a fact it is a sin in Islam b/c of what I typed earlier...the whole "disrespecting" your body thing...but you can't soley go to hell for that...it would be considered one sin to weigh down on the scale...
i personally wouldn't get a tattoo...but i won't lie, i admire the art aspect of it all...
