whenever people find images of what they believe to be jesus or the virgin mary, be it in a tortilla or a stain on the wall, would you say this is a miracle or just a coincidence? the reason i ask is because whenever i ask why god won't prove his existence by revealing himself i oftent get told that god has better things to do with his time that waste his time trying to convince me. so is putting his image on a tortilla for someone who already believes in him a real effective use of his time?

Coincidence and nothing more. We are pattern seeking creatures who survive by recognizing facial patterns. This is what bonds us to our parent. THis is also why we see clouds that look like bunnies. They arent bunnies - they are patterns that we seek to give meaning to. Its not Jesus on a tortilla - its a burn mark that we give meaning to when none is due.

I am sure that most, if not all, such occurences are merely coincidence. We see what we want to see. I have seen lots of interesting images in the grain of wood on the doors of different buildings. That doesn't mean that God is trying to tell me something, only that the wood grain has interesting patterns in it.
However, to enter the more intriguing question of why God doesn't reveal Himself to you, one must understand that God does not do miracles for the satisfaction of men's curiosity. God reveals Himself personally to prophets in order to accomplish a particular purpose. The spirit works miracles in accordance to faith and the will of God that such should take place. I have been party to small miracles both as giver and receiver. Nothing so dramatic as we read about in the Bible, but miracles nonetheless. God has not revealed Himself to me personally, that is not my purpose or responsibility. However, in fulfilling my responsibilities, within the realm of my own existence, I have had spiritual assistance to get things done, to accomplish my goals. That is witness enough for me to know that He exists, that He lives and that He takes an interest in my life.
I encourage you not to give up. Live faithfully, be humble before God and confident before men and move forward in the right direction and you will see little miracles open doors in your own life.

Why don't god prove himself to you? Why don't you prove yourself to god? If you actually went out and sought knowledge of him with an open heart and mind he will show himself to you.

I don't know about tortilla chips. I think people see what they want to see. Like if you look at the clouds you'd see an elephant. Same thing. But I don't discredit that people see those things because God wants them to and that's his way of showing himself. Some people need a tortilla chip to believe.

It's all about faith. This generation will seek a sign and none shall be given. The heavens declare His Glory. The miracle of birth Is a supernatural event In Itself ! No doctor can explain why blood never passes from mother to child while In the womb. Not One.

I don't understand the significance of finding Jesus' image in a tortilla... Most people don't have a clue how he possibly could've looked like. How can you see an image of someone if you don't even know his facial features?

I'm a Christian and I believe that it'd more than likely just be a coincidence if one finds a shape resembling Jesus in their half eaten tortilla.

And God purposely DOESN'T reveal Himself because He wants you to have faith and believe and in His existence.

1Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see. 2This is what the ancients were commended for. 3By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God's command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible.
~Hebrews 11:1-3 (New International Version)~

24For in this hope we were saved. But hope that is seen is no hope at all. Who hopes for what he already has? 25But if we hope for what we do not yet have, we wait for it patiently.
~Romans 8:24-25 (New International Version)~

Ever have a Rorschach test? You see what you want to see, what your unconscious mind wants to see, anyway. I had one once, and was certain I was giving the "obvious" answer every time. But the shrink was fascinated.

Quite a few people saw the face of the devil in the photos of smoke coming from the Twin Towers. But since we don't actually know what the devil looks like . . .

If Mary or Jesus was dressed in modern clothes , and went shopping in Wal Mart nobody would pay any attention to them.
No painting, no drawing , no discription of them was ever made of them until hundreds of years after their deaths.
Were either of them tall and slim , short and fat , banana or button noses , Grecian urn ears ? Nobody knows. The pictures of them that we often see were painted fourteen or fifteen hundred years later by Dutch or Italian painters from imagination . They had absolutely nothing to guide them except imagination . Your or my imagination is every bit as good, or as accurate as theirs .
When someone sees Jesus or Mary in a bowl of spaghetti or scrambled eggs, it's just a vague human form . It could be anybody . There's no limit to human imgination .

I think it goes to the human proclivity for pattern searching. We live in a random universe and want to find some underlying structure to make it all make sense.

Jesus on a piece of toast, the Devil in a cloud of smoke, Mary on a tamale, all reinforce a belief system.
