What Adobe Files are you talking about.
Adobe makes upwards of 15 different Programs with the ability to make different File Formats, again probably over 15 again. So you see just saying Adobe files can be very confusing. I have never heard of trying to open a file causing your computer to freeze.
It sounds like you may have a much bigger problem than what you explain.
Adobe programs are very simple to remove, by using the ADD and Remove programs in the Control Panel.
You may also be having a problem because the program of Adobes that you are trying to use was a borrowed program and rhe unlock product key was not given and thus Adobe knows it is a version of Pirated software.
I am not accusing, I am simply stating the facts as to what might be the cause of your problem.

Why are you not able to remove the older version? Have you tried Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel? That's really the only way to remove a program like Adobe. Click on Start, Settings, Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs, find Adobe and click on the Remove button on the right. After it's uninstalled, close the control panel and restart the computer. Then get a nice, fast little utility called Foxit Reader, which is maybe 1/10th the size of Adobe and more than twice as fast.

Try Foxit. It's a free pdf reader that is not bloated like the Adobe reader.
