For the I-864 form to be passed...do you need to have 3 years continious or will going on 2 be enough?

You need the last three years continious. If you didn't work or at least file taxes during one of those years, you'll need to submit a statement saying why not. If you were in school, for example, that would be a reason. In the end, it's more a question of your current income. If that's improved since the last time you filed, submit some recent W-2 statements to verify that.

From the instructions (http://www.uscis.gov/files/form/I-864.pdf) "A copy of your individual Federal income tax return, including W-2s for the most recent tax year, or a statement and/or evidence describing why you were not required to file." Unless you were not alive for 3 years you should be able to provide that.

you are able to write on your contemporary income or the income from the main contemporary return. in case you probably did no longer earn sufficient in the previous, yet you do now, placed your contemporary income and comprise some evidence of your income, like pay stubs and a letter out of your employer. in case you earned sufficient final 365 days, purely placed that.
