Hi,
Depression is very common, and allot of people are walking around depressed!
First you want to analyse where the depression is coming from.
Ask yourself,if it is drugs, alcohol,or poor diet, family, relationship problems,or combination of all problems.
or is it life issues?? maybe your childhood?
I would suggest if it is from drugs or alcohol ,to get to some aa/na meetings, and consult a therapist, although you can't afford one, most communities have local clinics that offer services to those that can't afford, call your local town hall for info.or local mental health center/physicians referral/social services.
Try positive things, get outdoors, take a walk, find somethings you love to do,and do them! don't allow yourself to sit in your room and doom and gloom.
mMake an agreenent with yourself,to start fresh today! stay in the day! Don;t allow yourself to think of the past,or future problems! When worry or negative thougths creep in,(as they will)..immmediately think of something pleasing,or happy!
Go to the book store and hit the self help center(or library)
find a good self-healing book,keep it simple!
one with helping to to modify your thinking, feeling,&acting.
the way you process information-the body-mind connection!
some people need medication, but the real secret to ridding depression is to change the way you view things.
I wish you well,I'm here if you have anymore questions, mizzmoze
Do not self-medicate or buy anti-depressants off internet or anywhere else!!! Go to health food store-go natural, safer, not aways helpful, but some really help alot!

I have the same problem. Our company's insurance is "great", but no matter what the issue is, we have to pay the first $1,500.00. So, where does that leave us? First of all, I would not use "wellebutrin" as someone has suggested above. This is the drug that makes people go crazy and commit suicide, sorry. That's what we're trying to avoid, right? So, here are my suggestions: exercise (true, it does help), lay off the alcohol, make sure you are spending some time outside, try to put your feelings into art (writing, drawing, coloring, whatever you like to do) and, sorry to promote illegal activity, but marijuana works wonders for me. If you are young enough, there is usually free counseling at the High School or college level. Otherwise, hang in there.

Exercise while listening to music. Both will help take your mind off the depression a little, and will build natural endorphin chemicals that are similar to the stuff in anti-depressant drugs. Your body makes its own anti-depressant chemicals, and this is a good way to trigger it to make more. Also, talk with persons who will really listen to you ... friends, relatives, and I mean the type who cares about others. Continue to ask questions on this board, because the majority here do care about others. Maybe try to answer some questions of others to help them, because from what I see, there's a lot of people in this forum who are hurting emotionally.

Buy St Johns Wort from any vitamin source. Make sure you don't get too much sun while taking it. Although, if you get little sunshine to begin with you can become depressed. We need at least 30 minutes a day.

There are agency's out there that will work with you on a low income sliding scale. All you need is proof of income. It's called Community Mental Health. Hope this works for you.

Look into referrals from your local health dept or social services dept...they can usualyy help you find someone very cheap or at no charge. Also, ask for listings of local support groups...

If you have good health insurance they should pay for majority of it. if it is still too much go to a free clinic type place. They are kinda hard to find but they can help. you can talk to someone else too.
