I'm a pretty shy, quiet and very soft-spoken person so I'll only open up to a select few people. The girls I'm comfortable around were talking to me about why my ex-boyfriend broke up with me. Before I told them, I glanced around and behind me to make sure no one else was around and said, "Honestly...it was the sex issue" however, I said "sex issue" REALLY quietly. After I said that, a few of the girls giggled for a second. They totally were on my side and supported me. But why do you think they giggled?

forgot to mention that the "sex issue" meant that I want to wait and he didn't.

Either because they were embarrassed at the mention of the word "sex," or it might have seemed you were embarrassed (since you said it so quietly), and they were laughing because they thought it was funny that you were embarrased..

All girls giggle about the mention of sex.
Or perhaps it was your expression, or they way you said it. Who knows? But it sounds kind of cute and funny the way you wrote about it, though.
BUT, I have to say congratulations that you are waiting it out--your purity. Save it for the special guy that you like and love.
By the way, if your friends respect you, and your views, then it's all cool. If they critiqued you and started gasping and giving you negative vibes, well, then I would consider my friendship. If they were supportive of you, and your breaking up with him, by all means stay friends, and then they can help you find another good guy that respects you all the more.

The topic of sex makes a lot of people feel a little nervous. And some people giggle when they're nervous.

"Sex" is one of those topics that many people are uncomfortable with discussing, even as adults, and one of the ways this discomfort can be displayed is by giggling.
Additionally, if you phrased it as "the sex issue" and they weren't aware of what "the sex issue" was, they could have made the assumption at first that you meant he wasn't very good at it, if they didn't previously know that you wanted to wait.

Many people would unintentionally giggle when you say "sex issue" in a whisper. It's funny. If you act like you're embarrassed when you're talking about it, why should you expect an adult reaction.

Well how old are they? Mentally I mean. Sounds like they are just a bit immature whether they were laughing at the fact that such a quiet soft spoken person said 'sex issue' or... well ... any other reason. Just immature, glad that they are supportive though.

Oh some people are a little skittish about the topic of sex or they probably thought you were being a little too secretive or prudish. Perhaps they were just being goofy and acting there age.

They probably laughed because youre 26 and whispering the word 'sex' like its a curse word. I wouldnt take it personal it's just funny when adults whisper words that arent really 'bad'

sex is a tabu subject so people aren't really sure how to respond so when people get nervous or uncomfortable laughter is a way to relieve tension so don't take it personal it's a natural reaction

How old are you? Maybe they just aren't mature enough to discuss "sex issues"? Or maybe they way you said it struck them as funny.....
