I have a light directly next to my head. My alarm clock is stuffed in my closet.
When my alarm clock goes off, I immediately turn on the light (which shocks you into waking up-believe me.) And then if I DO try to go back to sleep my alarm clock is still going so I have to get going.
And if all else fails, you could have your mother yell for you or call you in the morning.
Good luck and be proud of not being a morning person!

My alarm clock is actually in my living room (I live in a small 4 room apartment). This helps me get out of for the most part. What also helps is to have a "plan" when you get up in the morning. The night before, think about what you have to do in the morning and estimate how long it'll take. Things like eating breakfast, taking a shower, getting dressed, watch the morning news, etc. Just get motivated! :)

The idea is to give yourself a good rest. Before going to bed, have some alcoholic beverage ( 1 or 2 glasses of wine; 1 glass of beer, or 1 shot of vodka). You will sleep well, your brain will have enough rest, and your body will be recharged. And as a result you'll wake up and get up with pleasure!

When the alarm rings, stretch, put your feet on the floor and stand up. Walk towards the bathroom . . . throw cold water on your face, brush your teeth, and get ready for another day of adventure! Or . . . have someone throw a cup of cold water on you when the alarm goes off . . . it'll wake you up fast, and you won't want to go back to sleep in a wet bed!

Place the alarm clock on the far side of the room, set the volume so you HAVE to get up and turn it off.
This way you have to get up, walk a distance and turn the clock off. Lessens the chance that you will reach over, half-asleep and hit the Snooze Bar

If you get into a pattern of waking up at the same time every day, your body will adjust and wake up naturally around that time every morning. Assuming that you're getting a good night's sleep for your body.

I turn on the TV and turn up the volume, then I throw the remote across the room until the noise wakes me up enough to turn off the TV. That is only in the most extreme circumstances.

Your body needs light to get rid of melatonin, the chemical that makes you sleepy. It takes only a few minutes of light exposure to clear the brain of melatonin (that's why it's so hard to sleep when lights are on.)
So, either reach up and open your curtains or turn on a lamp, or get one of those alarm clocks that slowly turns on the light before the actual alarm goes off. Put the clock across the room so you have to get out of bed to turn it off.

This one's expensive, but you can find them cheaper at Wal-Mart and Target.
