Shiny Hair Rinse

This simple kitchen-cupboard recipe corrects the hair’s pH and removes residue from shampoo and other hair products, creating a healthy-looking shine and bringing out the natural highlights in your hair.

If you don’t want even the slightest lightening of color, omit the lemon juice and double the vinegar.

Juice from ½ lemon
2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
1 cup water

To make:
1. Combine all ingredients in a pitcher or jar and mix well.

To use:
1. Shampoo and rinse hair as usual.

2. Pour the mixture on your hair and massage into the scalp and through the hair.

3. Rinse thoroughly with cool water.

BTW, whenever you have some extra cash, Neutrogena Anti-Residue Shampoo = the best clarifying shampoo. It's a drugstore bargain.

I'm not exactly knowledgeable on this topic, but as the younger sister of a cosmetologist, I have a few suggestions. A simple shampoo can be made with very gentle dish soap (like, the kind that also softens hands as well as disinfects) a very small amount of water and egg whites. I suppose the ratio of soap to eggwhites would be about 3:1. Egg whites also make a good hair gel on a hot or muggy day, they're also scentless. Hair conditioner is a bit more difficult to make, as it has chemicals in it that coat the hair strands and makes them temporarily 'stronger'. I'd advise just using a simple, cheap over-the-counter conditioner. The professional types that cosmetologist use are effective, but fairly harsh and very expensive. I'd still advise using purchased conditioners. If there is an organic/health food store nearby, then I'd definitely check that out in hopes of finding additive-free hair care products. If all else fails, just change your diet. Healthy hair begins inside. Keep your body healthy and your hair will reflect. A multivitamin also helps. Good Luck, and I hope my information helps
