The New Testament is not called the gospel.
The gospel (or "good news") is the account of the life and times of Jesus Christ as told by four of his close friends, Matthew, Mark, Luke and John.
The Old Testament is really the first Covenant.
The New Testament, the fulfillment of the promise given in the Old Testament, is in reality, the second Covenant.
Old and New are misnomers, "old" implying outdated, etc. Rather, First Testament, or First Covenant makes more sense.

The New Testament is not the Gospel. The first four books of the New Testament (Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John) are the four gospels. Gospel means "good news" - so those books introduce the "good news" of Jesus. The rest of the New Testament is just more of the New Testament.

The NT contains 'The Gospel' which is the first four books-Matthew, Mark, Luke and John (there are other Gnostic Gospels that also write about the teachings, life and times of Jesus)
The 'Torah' includes the first five books of the OT (Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, Deuteronomy)
It's all a collection of stories that were distorted throughout time.

this is supplemental. If you are reading the bible, then think of the old testament as the old contract.
Its God's old deal between himself and man. Contract expired in 0000AD and he wrote a new one, with the option of staying on the old one. (There are people who still practice Judaism and belive in christ.)
He may decide, "ok, I think Its time for a new contract" or he may just decide "Its time to stop being union" and he may treat us all individually. ( a lot of christians do hold to a semblance of what im saying in that last part.... and all pagans do.... though we substitute god for Gods. We (christians and pagans) that we are not judged by some ultimate standard but by how we lived our lives.
