He is not the only dog I've ever had that does this so I know it's got to be a canine thing. I was just wondering if anyone else's dog does this.

He is a 6 month old german shepherd. He already weighs in at around 75 lbs. YIKES! He is quite heavy to be sitting and laying on anyone's feet...LoL!

Dogs are pack animals (they live in groups) and like physical touch so they know they're not alone. Puppies instinctively sleep in piles. In the wild this provides the safety of there being many instead of just one or two.

Wow - I was wondering the same thing. What kind of dog do you have? I have a Bichon Frise and she sits and lays on my feet all the time. I was so interested to find out why she does this so I did some research on the Internet and I found some information and it said that Bichons were used as feet warmers for the Monks. Weird, huh?

Yes, mine do. They want to make sure you are there for them. Also, it can be a protective thing. I have guard dogs and herding dogs and they all do it. I know the guardian dog is protecting me. The older dog does it cause his eyesight isn't what it used to be so he wants to make sure I'm still in one spot so when I move, he moves.

I'm pretty sure dogs do this because
A:They love you
B:They like their owners or master's odor (scent)
my dogs do this sometimes. They same reason they chew on socks and shoes.

I have a 16 week dobie and he does it all the time! even if i am just loading the washing machine he is there on my legs! i think it is just because they want to be a close as possible to you, or thinking that you are theirs!
