Hi everyone

I have just reported a drug dealer to the police.

The operator on the phone asked my name and address, I advised her. Will she inform the person that I reported of these details.

She also asked for his number plate of his car, but nothing else about the car, will the police be able to bring up who the car is registered to and the model ec just by the number plate?

What will the police do with the information that there is a drug dealer living near me?

The Police receive numerous tips from citizens regarding suspected drug activity.

They do not share with the suspected drug dealer that X person who lives at X location gave them the tip. Police have access to the vehicle registration data base and can determine the registered owner of a vehicle by the plate number.

Cooperating with the police is the best, most effective way to rid your community of the drug dealers.

Those guys have to look over their backs 24 hrs.a day 7 days a week waiting to be locked up. Remember what they are doing is a no win thing because they will get caught at some point. This isn't nothing permanent. An addict will kill you for those drugs.Your turn will come to shine, and the drug dealer will be in jail wishing they had your life. What would happen if someone died from your drugs. These guys don't last long they all in up in prison at some time. Do you think the police that risk their lifes everyday and pay taxes aren't noticing their activities? Of course they are, they want to know where your getting your money that your flashing. Hold your head up high and it sounds long-suffering but you are the winner in this case. Don't do it and keep praying because I feel someone as strong as you will be a success.

Yes with just the plate numbers they can track the cars owner and even the address if its up to date. That of course is if the car isn't stolen. Your information will not be provided to the Alleged Drug Dealer, but you may be asked to testify in court or give a statement on what occurred or what you saw..

As far as what the police will do I don't think they will go rush right over and arrest him. They may put the name in there system and see if he has priors or Better for you any warrants. If they don't have any of those I would assume they will let it lay low unless they get more evidence or they may even try to get one of there Undercover to buy some drugs from him/her. They have a lot of different methods as far as trying to find a drug dealer, but they wont just rush to act in case your a crazy Ex- Girl Friend trying to get an innocent man busted... Not saying that is your case but just an example..

CHEERS

The police will be able to locate the owner of the car, but it may have been stolen it will then depend on whether they can pursue the matter further.
If they find the dealer he will be dealt with in accordance with the law depending on the amount, street value and nature of the substance seized.
Have no reservations about reporting him you did the right thing, a pity there are not more people like you to put an end to this vile trade that always ends in misery and inevitability death.

The information you have given will be treated confidentially and will most definitely not be disclosed to the alleged dealer nor anyone else for that matter.

The police will be able to do PNC and intelligence checks on the vehicles registration number, however I would have asked for make, model and colour, to confirm that you passed the correct registration number.

They may already be aware of the subject. The may also do some obs before applying for a drugs warrant. They may task community officers to give it some attention and develop intelligence.

answers to your questions .......

No she will not inform the offender of your details or your call.

Yes she will be able to bring up details on the car from just the registration , although its good practice to get a make model and color to ensure that it matches.

You may not see immediate action , this doesnt mean nothing is being done ...its just means a case is being built ie gathering information.

Well done not enough people call to let the police know whats happening

Don't worry, my mum called the police once when a gun was pulled out in the street where we used to live (in hackney). She did that 141 on the phone so they couldnt tell the number and she didnt give her name or any details. 2 hours later the police knocked on the door thanking my mum for the call. So they know who you are even if you don't tell them. they wont tell the druggie just maybe give them a call to say you dont want any police visits.

They will watch him. He is probably already known to them because if you noticed him then he isnt being very descreet.

After a while they will gather evidence of his activities, association with other known dealers, maybe listen to phone calls etc They will build up a picture which is known to us as evidence and they will either then get the bigger fish he is buying off or do him

Yes a car reg tells them if car insured, taxed, mot and who is the regs. keeper

They wouldnt just give your name out. They probably acquired it for a further chat

The operator should not have asked for your name and address and believe me nothing to do with the Police is confidential. You would have been better ringing Crimestoppers. As it's weed it will most probably be ignored anyway. Good luck.
