A destructive and extreme form of anger. Anger can be positive. People go out and vote because they are angry about politics or take up a social cause because they are angry at injustices, etc. Hate goes beyond that. Hate loses rationale behind it and is needlessly destructive.

I think that hate is similar to love, the reason why I say this is because if you love somebody than you care about that person, and if you hate someone you still care about that one person because it seems that in both was you have feeling towards a person wether you hate them or not. The only difference is that when you love someone you would always wish for the best for that person, but when you hate someone you wish bad stuff towards that person. So in a way hate and love are very much alike.

This word “hate” has several shades of meaning. It may denote intense hostility, sustained ill will often accompanied by malice, that impels one to bring harm to the hated object. This is a wrong kind of hatred. It has a bad motive. It is born of the Devil, often is nurtured in a confused and frustrated mind, and is invariably misdirected. The whole history of men and nations under the Devil’s control has been practically a continuous account of violent bloodspilling hatred. Sometimes only a few individuals are involved. At other times anarchy and revolution engulf a whole nation. Frequently the hatred bred by international wars blots out the lives of thousands of innocent ones.
“Hate” may also signify a strong dislike, but without any intent to bring harm to the object, seeking instead to avoid it as when one loathes something distasteful. This kind of hate is good if directed against that which is bad.
This right kind of hatred is in imitation of God, the God of righteousness. He does not hate what is bad because of frustration nor does he manifest his hate in uncontrolled, intemperate, violent actions. God’s hatred of what is bad is a principled hatred. Such hatred does not disturb one’s peace of mind and afflict one with ulcers. It is a strong dislike, an extreme aversion, a pronounced distaste, a profound repugnance of what is bad. It means to loathe, to abhor, to abominate whatever is bad because it is wrong, very harmful and wholly unloving.

The opposite of love is not hate -- it's laziness, according to Scott Peck. I agree with him.
I also agree with people who say that love and hate are 2 sides of the same coin. If you hate somebody, you still have some vested emotion in that person, or else you wouldn't hate -- you wouldn't care.
I'd describe the feeling of hate as being a very strong desire that something hadn't happened, or that some person would leave me alone. To me, hate is a very strong, almost irresistible desire to push somebody or something out of my life, or to cause them to leave me alone.

You can measure the Love or Hate you may feel for another person by how much time you're willing to spend with them.

Love is having affection for one another and God but hate would be to not have affection, not care and have dislike towards one another.
