Yeesh - this drives me nuts. I just want the email addresses listed in the cells. That's it! Treat it like text and don't go trying to be helpful MS. No hyper linking or other helpful stuff thank you MS.

Thanks for the quick response - note that no hyperlinks are on, and there is a " ' " at the start of the text string.

Glad you mentioned that though as I had forgotten that trick.

Both of the first two answerers are correct; however, there is a better way of doing it for multiple entries or if you never want it to do the hyperlinking thing.

Go to:

Tools > AutoCorrect Options...

Then select the tab called:

AutoFormat As You Type

Unclick the checkbox for:

Internet and network paths with hyperlinks

This should take care of your problem and make it so you don't have to worry about a hyperlink EVERY time that you encounter one.

That's the difference between my answer and the first two answers. With theirs you have to deal with the problem every single time you enter an email or website address. With mine you only have to deal with the problem once and you are done.

this is humorous-- once I type an e mail handle in a cellular in Excel, i will basically click on it and it does precisely as you're asking right here-- opens a clean outlook message with the To: handle already populated. i'm using Excel 2003. i ask your self whether the cells on your Col M are formatted in any different case (i've got self belief there is a few putting the place the link isn't lively) or in case you have maximum advantageous/trailing areas or some form of character caught in there? attempt typing an e mail handle someplace else on the sheet (or a clean workbook fullyyt) and see if it does the comparable element, perhaps?

any time you want the data in a cell to be treated as text only simply start the data with the '

That is the hyphen that is next to the enter key on most keyboards (same key that usually has " on it when you press the shift key). So for example you would type

'bob@email.com

don't worry, you will not see the ' in the cell. You will only see it when you edit the cell.

By the way, this works with all kinds of data in excel not just e-mails.

Right click, choose Hyperlink, then Remove Hyperlink.
