Reiki has its origins in Japan by a man named Dr. Mikau Usui.
Basically this is what happens in a reiki session. A practioner will move their hands around the person's body, - usually in a specific order. Where ever there is an injury or illness, the client will feel a deep penatrating heat radiating from the practioner's hands. (This is much hotter than how hands would normally feel.)
The heat helps to relax muscles and tendons (similar to how a heating pad or heating rub would work)
The heat also increases the flow of blood to that area. This allows the body to increase the oxygen to the area as well as clean out infections and inflamation quicker.
In Eastern Medicine it is believed that we all have an invisible circuitry of energy flow known as the Meridians. These are activated by mini power houses known as Chakras.
It is believed that a main sourse of pain, or illness is caused by a blockage of energy along a meridian or the chakra is not functioning properly. Reiki is one way of releasing the blockages and allow for better energy flow.
The client also gets an hours to just lie and breath deeply and have a deeply relaxing session. With the busyness of today's world, many find this reason enough to have regular sessions.
One of the great things about Reiki is that it is non-invasive. It can be used in conjunction with any other therapy - western or eastern. This means that anyone can enjoy a session irregardless of their physical health and hopefully it will help improve it.
Feel free to email me if you have any questions.

I did shiatsu for a year, but always thought reiki was too far fetched to believe. However, the only time I ever had a reiki session, I felt such an intense burning on my back that I thought the healer was using some sort of moxa treatment with fire. The burning was so intense that I almost had to stop the session, yet it turned out he had patently used no heat source at all. I did not accept the principles of reiki at the time, and I still don't, nor did I expect the session to produce any sensation at all, yet I confess to having no explanation whatsoever for what I felt during my reiki session. It was probably the closest I've ever been to a, for want of a better word, 'supernatural' experience.

Reiki is magical touch healing. It's up there with faith healing, crystals, psychic surgery, and ESP. In other words, like anything else that relies on magic, there's nothing to it. The most it can do is offer temporary comfort to the patient. It has no medical efficacy and has shown to have no positive effect whatsoever. If someone skips real treatment in favor of Reiki then obviously it can have some very serious effects, not from the Reiki but from the actual disease being treated.

I'm a 3rd level Reiki practicioner. I've used it a lot, but found it works best for me if I combine it with other methods.
Good stuff, Reiki, but just not the best for me.

it is healing using universals energies
i have used it and also recieved it
and have had great results and seen great results
the best being when I was sending reiki to my mum who had just had a stroke
we done some experiments with it ( with mums permission of course ) and the results were amazing
it is not a miracle cure , it wont fix broken bones....
it is an aid , it is pain relief , it is relaxation , it is spiritual healing......
I would use reiki before many other alternative methods of healing

Quiet, peaceful, relaxing...reminds me of some of Brian Eno's and Vangelis's stuff.
And it's a religion, too, or something.

I have a few friends that are reiki masters...
I think that it works subtlety but like all such healings it's power lies both in the belief of the master and the client.

My mother uses reiki. When she is all stressed out she goes to a reiki class and comes back somewhat normal.
Its something to do with stones and healing.

Its a Japanese form of healing by laying on of the hands. Attunements are required to perform reiki however there are other forms of laying on of hands healing that do not require the attunements. Did you have any specific questions?
