Grand Rapids, MI (AHN) - Rep. David Agema, a lawmaker from Michigan is proposing a new bill that would allow teachers to be armed with guns. The rationale for the proposal is that teachers need guns to defend students from attacks by both terrorists and other students.
Agema, a Republican from West Michigan, said he believes the measure would save lives, the UPI report on Monday.
"Right now, the only people who enter school with guns are people who intend to do harm," Agema was quoted as saying by The Grand Rapids (Mich.) Press.
"I believe it will save lives if a kid or somebody comes into a school and starts shooting again."
Apparently he's not alone; the measure has garnered support from 15 other House members. However school officials whose schools the guns would be in are horrified by the suggestion that teachers need to be packing heat in schoolrooms.
I'm just left speechless by this," Grand Rapids Superintendent Bernard Taylor was quoted as saying by the Grand Rapids Press. "It hurts to hear we've come to this, that we're so afraid of children that we think we need to be armed to work with them."
He continued, "If that's what we've come to, I need to find a new line of work."
According to Agema`s bill the legislation would allow teachers, administrators or other school employees to carry concealed weapons on school grounds if they have a state permit to carry one and have permission from their school administrator.

I do not think teachers should be allowed to "pack heat," but dangerous schools should have security guards that do.

I do agree to a point , but you do run the risk of the teacher being over powered by kids who have no proper up bringing and their gun taken , I mean come on , teachers are not popular in the kicking @ss dept.. If they were to do this , the teacher also need to do more than just take a shooting class , they would need to take unarmed defense , knife defense , and close quarter defense as well , because there may be a time when they wish to draw down , and kids could be in the line of fire , or they may be backed in a corner and not able to draw..
It is sad that it has ever come to this , If people would learn to raise their kids right , we would not have this problem , Schools have been on a downhill run that started in the late 60's when Madeline Murray O'Hare went before a bunch of democrats and convinced them that America had to cater to everyones beliefs and they went for it , so they kicked morals ,and values right out of school , when they kicked out God. ...Then they did away with spanking because some old guy told a bunch of liberals it was wrong to spank a child , and the old man never had kids , which make him no expert , but they fell for it again , if no one believes this , compare schools from say the mid 40's up to the late 60's , look at the number of school shootings , teacher assaults , student teacher sex , and the over all disaplinary reprts , then compare it from the late 60's up to now , and tell me I am wrong , but seeing how we evolved in to thinking it is normal for kids to talk back , for teens to be out of control , for pre teens to run wild , with no disapline , Parents have lost their back bone teens are running the show , not the parents , What neds to happen seeing how we have gone too far to turn back , they should hold the parents responsible for the crimes their kids commit , I do not care if the kid is 18 or 25 , when they shoot up a school they need to charge the parents for failing to properly raise a child and they get the same sentence as the child even if it is death..Then we would not have to worry about arming teachers because this would do away with the bad kids , and the spinless parents . and throw in a charge for a liberal judge that lets a violent kid walk free ..

there have been many actual money owed of the failure of school directors and regulation enforcement companies to sidestep violence in our colleges. some college room instructors or principals, thoroughly experienced interior using firearms or tasers by capacity of qualified regulation enforcement, NRA, or CCW instructors ought to upload very much to the risk-free practices of our colleges, even people who now produce different armed risk-free practices human beings. the assumption isn't lots diverse from that of experienced and armed commercial airline flight crews. the matters are liablility and political opposition. the faculties do not desire to be sued to any extent further than the airlines do, and the armed instructor theory is in simple terms as lots unfavourable by capacity of a few legislators as is the armed flight team theory. The TSA has vigorously unfavourable arming flight crews, and the numerous gun-haters in legislative positions, like Hillary Clinton, Ted Kennedy, and Chuck Schumer will do something of their power to sidestep arming college instructors. Their in straightforward terms answer is to sidestep all regulation-abiding electorate from possessing firearms. Their proposals to snatch your weapons have already been written and provided interior the U.S. homestead and Senate. a number of the worst of them have been defeated so a great way, at large cost, by capacity of the NRA and u . s .'s sportsmen and different gun vendors. issues will probably get lots worse with a sparkling administration. Gun vendors could be helping their companies NOW, or they'll see u . s . flow the way of britain, Canada, and Australia. extra violent crime, by way of fact those international places not have any armed inner maximum electorate to help end crime, and there is not adequate cops to do all of it.
