How is it that the definition of faith tells us otherwise? That there is no proof in faith. I mean if there is no proof, how does the truth part come in?

Who says you need proof if something is the truth?

Part of it is that Jesus called himself, "the way, the truth, and the light". The word "truth" appears over 200 times in the bible (KJV) and many of those refer to God (father, son and/or holy spirit) as "the truth".

From a semantic point of view, none of the definitions of faith in the MW dictionary included the word "proof". Taking it a step farther, none of the definitions of "truth" include the word "proof".

One word that appears in several of the definitions of "truth" is "fact"...looking at that definition, only one part of one of the definitions of "fact" includes any variation of the word "proof" and then only in an example of an unrelated use the word fact:

Semantically, proof has nothing to do with truth.

Through faith, I believe the bible is the truth. I can then collect evidence about the validity of the message of the bible (the foundation of my faith) from my own experience. This evidence allows me to establish the messages as a "fact" (e.g., it is a fact that all humans will die). The volume of "facts" I've identified in the bible allow me to accept it as "truth" and thus, that my beliefs (my religion if you will) is also the truth.

Because from their point of view, their faith is the only truth they know and accept. The "proof" is really subjective. One person may see all the good things in their life: family, friends, security as "proof" that a higher power exists. Others accept the Bible as truth because that is how they live their lives. Truth and Faith are not mutually exclusive. Its really the degree of faith within the individual that determines their own personal cognizence of truth.

Truth is open to intrepretation. Facts remain the same. Two people can look at the same facts and come to different conclusions, or truths. Truth and faith go together hand in glove. Take the 9-11 attacks, the facts are two airplanes ran into the world trade center buildings and caused their collapse. But depending on who you ask, the cause and effects of these attacks, the truth, varies greatly.

Isn't it absurd to think something is real as truth just because you believe it is? Of course it's crazy.
Christians do not have faith because they think their religion is truth, but BECAUASE it holds the absolute truth, they have faith. Non believers will only scorn this, saying, "You hipocrites! Why do you think you are right? Why can't you just accept other's truths, too? How do you know you aren't just another deceived false religion?!!?"

But Jesus said we will be mocked and rejected because of His name. How truer can that get?!?
I think people hate Christians for their faith and truth because the nature of man's heart is sin and sin is always against truth, which opposes it, condemns it.
What other religion takes a stand saying "I am the truth!" ?
Could humans have actually even thought of something like truth by themselves?? Seriously, could we have??

How do you know what you feel is right? Haven't your feelings ever turned out to be wrong? Are you are saying that what you feel determines truth? If so, then you are putting yourself in the place of God, and looking to yourself for what you "feel" is right.
If religion is whatever you feel is right, then that could lead to chaos. What if some people had a religion where they felt stealing was acceptable? And what about lying and cheating? Would you trust someone who believed in a religion that felt it was all right to steal, lie, and cheat?
Hitler felt killing Jews was right. He was wrong. The Bible says that the heart is deceitful and untrustworthy (Jer. 17:9). If you could come to know truth by what you felt, then the Bible, which is the revelation of God, didn't need to be written. But it has been written, and it has revealed that only God is the Source of truth, not your feelings.
I've never known truth to contradict itself. What if someone felt that something was right, and another person felt it was wrong? Would they both be right? If your statement is true, then how could there be a contradiction like that, if feelings determined truth?

In your own link this is what the dictionary defines a faith. Belief and trust in and loyalty to God. So I think you just proved how truth and faith are one in the same.

Kind of like you have faith in the "truth" that the world is not flat, not because you have been in a shuttle orbiting the earth to see it first hand, but because you trust in the reliability of the evidence you have seen (satellite pictures) and the trustworthiness of those who have witnessed the earth from outer space....Christianity also has evidence, such as the Holy Spirit, and eye witnesses, such as the apostles.

Faith is the truth that resides in our hearts. Therefore to each of us, our own personal faith IS the truth.
