Whoa - I'll be amazed if anyone on here has an answer for this one!

The best thing you can is talk to your vet. They are the ones that can find you someone to do this surgery, since it's a major op that not every hospital will cater for. They are also the best people to give you an idea of the price, but you are talking thousands.

As for what happens in the surgery - it depends what type of surgery is being done. 'Hip replacement' can refer to a number of different ops - here's a vaguely helpful article:

If you decide to have an op for your cat, the vet who will be performing it will be the best to describe what s/he's going to do, depending on what type of surgery it is.

A hip replacement typically costs in the thousands, but your veterinarian can help you more with specific costs.

I personally also have a cat with hip displaysia. Other options besides hip replacements include medications that help rebuild the joint including oral meds that are given daily (on the food) and periodic injections that help tremendously.

Also, a surgery called FHO (femoral head osteotomy) is common with hip displaysia cases. It's not a hip replacement though. It removes the head of the femurs, where the problem originates, and the muscles and surrounding tissue regrows around the joint. Pets often do amazingly well with this kind of surgery so you may want to ask about it instead of a total hip replacement.

It all varies on the severity of the disease and the procedure being done.

You can call around for prices.

From what I understand its more of a problem in breeding cats. Where you breeding? Its good that you had it checked just like in dogs the cats should also be OFA certified.

Where you are going to have a problem is not as much has been done and the meds used to help build the "fake" joint may not be able to be used in the cat.

These are questions you need to ask your vet as prices vary and no one can answer this for you.
