First off, go see your dentist to make sure that's what they are. There are several other things, depending on what they look like, including pre-cancerous lesions or leukoplakia. Not to get you worried prematurely. Just that you need to have it looked at.
Secondly, I'm not sure if there is any "magic bullet" for canker sores...if that's what you have. Canker sores ("chancre", officially) are still somewhat mysterious to the medical community. Their cause is unknown. Individuals often have them pop up...they stay for a while (intermittently)...and then they are gone. Among factors/causes, stress or insufficient sleep seem to be contributors for some people. So maybe try just getting a little extra snooze for a while and see if that helps. The Listerine wouldn't help unless they were caused by some type of microbial infection which could be killed that way. There is some potential link between leukoplakia and alcohol consumption...so if it is that rather than canker sores, quit drinking for a while and see if they go away (and btw, Listerine has alcohol in it...)
What else...there's some small chance it could be oral herpes...but that's pretty unlikely unless you are having sores on the outside of your mouth. Yours sound like classic "canker sores", not "cold sores".
Bottom line: check with your doc and/or dentist. Sleep enough. Try laying off alcoholic beverages and spicy foods. See what happens.
Good luck, and let us know, if you are able to determine anything. :)

I get canker sores now and again, I have one right now actually, which is why I was searching for the latest news on them. I found the best treatment is 'bonjela', its a gel that is anti-bacterial as well as has a local anesthetic so after the 3 second sting when you rub it on, it numbs the pain for quite a while.
But yeah, I wish I didn't get them that much, apparently the main cause is a vitamin imbalance, mainly of the B variety. Apparently having some B vitamins can lower you levels of another B vitamin.. So I usually get them when my diet becomes a little strange.. Like when I keep drinking certain fruit juices with added vitamins and stuff. Oh well, hope that helped, and hope both of us get rid of these annoying canker sores soon. (hate them ;p)

Your dentist should carry a mouth rinse called periodex that aids in getting rid of canker sores. They might even have a toothpaste.

They take about 5 days to go away if you don't aggravate them. Listerine is too harsh a treatment; use warm water with salt (a couple of shakes to taste but not gag on salt). These are sometimes caused by not flossing/brushing correctly, but are also related to HPV blisters. Take care.

Rinse your mouth with Salt water 3-5 times a day. It's still going to take time.

If you can take the pain, and there will be alot of pain, put a pinch of table salt on it and keep it there. Like the other person said it still takes time but this seems to speed it up a little.
