oh gosh - you are planning where to live by how much charity you will get from the taxpayers? I would say the best state is the one with family or friends that can help you out until you can get a job and support your children.

I have no clue what the different states do down south for women with children as far as programs and insurance go but I am 5 months pregnant and can tell you what all Alaska is offering me. First of all I recieve WIC which is good...gives you cereal, milk, eggs, peanut butter, cheese, juice. If you meet the income requirements you can recieve food stamps. Also once you are in your third trisemester of pregnancy or if you already have kids the same program that gives you food stamps you will get cash assistance. My friend gets a little over 200 for her son. You can use it at wal mart or grocery stores...any where that accepts your quest card (food stamp card) You can use it on anything in that store just like money, clothes, diapers, wipes, more food, toothpaste, anything. Also we have a program called Denali Kid Care. It's a branch off of medicaid for children until they are 21 or pregnant women. I am only 19 and 5 months pregnant so Denali Kid Care is covering not only myself but my prenatal care and it will cover the baby after it is born as long as we still meet the income requirements. It covers EVERYTHING for a young child and once the child is 3 it covers yearly eye appts and twice yearly dental visits until 21. So it's covering me for this too until I'll be 21. Also the one thing that really helps, where I live is a small island, we don't have a hospital only a clinic here so I have to travel on an hour and a half ferry ride to and from the next biggest town...Ketchikan...to go to my doc appt for the baby. It's 50 round trip and that adds up pretty quick. Denali Kid Care covers the cost of your ferry tickets for all your appointments. And two weeks before your due date they will put you up in our local Best Western for how ever long you have to "wait for the baby" so that way you aren' tin labor and trying ot be life flighted to the closest hospital. It will also give you food vouchers for your time you are put up in the hospital. There are a lot of great programs up here. You can get free Day Care for kids if you meet the income requirements and if you are Alaska Native there are even more things you qualify for. My fiance, the baby's father is native and the baby will recieve those benefits just like the father does. The baby will always have free medical care if he/she goes to one of their clinics. Free prescription fills, free dental, free visions etc. Along with they really help you out when you turn 18 and are just getting started. You can get in on a program that once you show you have a job and find an apartment or house to rent they will pay the first month's rent to allow you to save up rent money. They get a lot of the local businesses to employ through them and you can only get hired if you are native but you get paid 12 hour starting thorugh the native corporation for a variety of jobs. Another program we have up here is called the lifeline program. If you meet the income requirements you can get a cell phone with 800 minutes month...nothing fancy no texting or anything liek that just simply minutes for ONE dollar a month. Hope this helps. I know this is a lot of info but like I said I don't know anything about what other states have to offer only my own!

I know Washington is allot like the girl described Alaska. but there is workfirst. That is a program that helps get folks of welfare. They give you training in job search or GED or college to help get a career. I know Montana has quite similar but not quite as helpful.

Good question. One thing you could do is look at states with laws for letting women breastfeed in public - basically not banning. Also excusing them from jury duty if nursing.

California, NY or Mass...... Any state that votes Democratic will have more programs to help you.... Republican states tend to think you should not be living off the State....

Sorry but it's not the state's job to do more for you.
It's up to you to do more for yourself and your children.
