You can transfer to the Corps. It's been a law for over 60 years. But, you will probably wind up as an 0311. So, you get a bigger weapon and you don't have to hump the medical bag.
If you are already an HM-8404 you got a fair amount of field training during FMSS. I admit it isn't the same as the post-boot camp training given to the Marines. But, you have to make the decision. I was much more comfortable with patching up Marines than engaging those who put the hurt on them in the first place.

The Navy has better training for corpsmen. In fact, it's they who take care of the marines on the battlefield as well. A friend of mine is an HM working in Iraq.

As an HM you will be working alot with the Marines, that includes training with them. There are quite a few HM's who spend there whole career with the Marines. If I were you I wouldn't worry about crossing from Navy to Marines....that usually doesn't work in your favor. Good Luck to you!!

The Navy Hospital corpsmen is such an important job during the war. Being able to save lives and limbs on the battlefield is very admirable. Unless you can become a Marine corpsmen , kepp doing what your doing.

My husband is a corpsman. Yes the corpsman are the 1's that take care of the marines. If you are given the chance to go FMF you will be sent to a Marine boot camp for 6 weeks or so to get trained in the way they fight. If you complet that will flying colers then they will give you the chance to be in the MARINES. Goold luck Seaman

You're fine. Going green will get some of the same training as the Marines. You'll tag along on field ops, etc... The Marines need you to take care of their a**.

If you're concerned about being sent and improperly trained, I would switch over to the Marines if it was me - and they will allow you to do this.
The training is hands down 2nd to none. My husband was a machine gunner in the 1st gulf war, USMC. Their basic training alone is the toughest.
I hope they will let you switch - you are brave and courageous and I thank you for serving! God Bless you!
